Australian Synpower 0w40 API SJ

Synpower is competitively priced here compared to Mobil and Castrol but there seems to be very little information out there. Valvoline themselves seem to push their conventional range a lot but Synpower goes mostly unnoticed.

I have noticed most stores carry the Synpower HST range in 0w40 5w40 and 10w50. The Valvoline Australia website lists them all as API SN rated however all the 5w40 and 10w50 stocked seems to be API SM. That could be just old stock, but the 0w40 is API SJ! Given how old it would have to be, it just seems unlikely it is simply old stock. The alternative is that it is formulated this way on purpose. I know some Castrol Edge and Elf Excellium 50 grades are formualted API SG on purpose. Does anyone have more information on the Valvoline? Either way would this 0w40 SJ actually be a good option with an old school add pack maybe for older performance engines?

Did you check the site to see if that's their current rating or just some old bottles?

The Aus site says it should be SN but no bottles I've seen in the shops are SN. So it's either all old stock or the website is incorrect. The 0w40 could be the European version which is still only SJ rated according to that website.

You guys are just like us Canadians - we waited forever for the SN rollout.

In any case, it could be either old stock or European stock or the website's mistake. There's not a lot of call for SN 0w-40 oils, after all.

Or maybe those in your neck of the woods are as fond of old API specs as they are of what most of us here would consider overly heavy grades for most applications?
