Audi A4 2.0T Quattro

My son recently bought a 2017 A4. He needs new tires ( 245/40/18) . He got a price at about $800 from Costco for Michelin Pilot Sport AS4. We live in western Wa. and get a ton of rain. He also spends some time in the snow.

He is sold on the Michelins but I want him to get some other opinions. These are the first high performance type tires I’ve had to research

Now they actually make all-season tires with the 3-peak sign which are better in snow than other all-season tires. You may see them referred to as "all weather" tires. Michelin makes one called the CrossClimate, but there are others, such as:
Toyo Celsius
Nokian WRG4
Vredestein Quatrac 5 (and the newer Quatrac Pro)
Hankook Kinergy 4S2

If he spends some time in the snow... save the All-season tires, and get an extra set of wheels and mount some winter tires for it. It will be money well spent

How much is "some time in the snow"? Mountains?
If he needs good performance in snow/ice he needs winter tires for winter.

I would seriously consider the Goodyear Eagle Exhilarate. My wifes GTI has them and they are a very competent tire. No snow use yet, but very good in the wet. Much more refined ride than the AS3+ we had previously. Who knows vs the AS4 though. I wish I was rich enough to run my own tests.

For all season, he cannot go better than that.
However, how much time in snow? In WV? I would get cheap wheels from DT and dedicated snow tires. He should check whether he could go one size down to 17 inch (I think he could).
