I have attic stairs in my garage and in my old sons bedroom. We are going to redo his room now that he has moved out. The attic stairs have never closed correctly, i had a small key lock to keep them closed.

Is this an installation error or are these just the budget stair sets? It seems to close fine but the door has a bow. It looks to be installed square, but the plywood door is bowed from front to back. The garage set is the same, but i don't care about fixing that one.

They are 20 years old.

Astro14 can appreciate the Tomcat poster in the last pic of my son's room.

I am looking at replacing it with an aluminum set like this. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Werner-...b-Maximum-Load-Capacity-AE2210/203647696

They don't seem bowed. Rather, the doors both appear not to be fully closed.
Is the installation level?
The set my Dad and I installed (Simplex, not Werner) was 50 years ago and the "lid" always closed square and true. It still does.

The modern replacement looks good. I will give them a look when next I'm in a HD.

The Tomcat poster is hard to locate

Since its both, i'm going to assume something was not installed correctly. I'll replace the bedroom set with the aluminum and follow the instructions , perhaps they were both just slapped in.

Maybe the guy who has secretly been living in your attic all these years caused this when going in and out every night!!

You mean hard to locate in the pic, or hard to locate that particular poster?

When I installed ours I didn't shim it right so looked the same. Had to pull it to the right to close. Had her close it while I watched it so I'd know what was off and not guess. Closes perfect now. Just need to foam around it and figure out a way to insulate it.

Thanks, i'm thinking it was just not installed right. I'm going to get the newer one in aluminum, and install it per instructions.
