Come on. What is wrong with high rise condo buildings? With proper urban planning, one can have large parks in the cities as well where the kids can play.

Please site an example of one place on earth where this has happened without congestion, pollution, higher crime rate, etc.

How often do you enjoy your front/back yards? Mowing the grass once a week, wasting water on your lawn or saturating it with fertilizers and herbicides?

Actually, the new house I just moved into has mostly rocks with a few dessert plants on a drip system. My back yard is currently rocks and dirt, but it has a nice view of the mountain behind my house, so I still enjoy it. Much better, IMHO, than looking at an endless sprawl of concrete and glass towers with clogged streets in between.

"the new house I just moved into has mostly rocks"

That would drive the Pablos of the planet excruciatingly BONKERS!!!!!!!!!!

Japan seems to be handling it okay.

I'll admit that I am not familiar with the stat's of Japanese large cities, but from what I have seen on TV, congestion is a major problem. Even on the subways as they actually have conductors to shove the people in so they can close the doors. I would highly doubt that pollution and crime are lower in the cities than in other places though.

If someone has more info or fist hand experiance, please chime in.
