ATF Type F / Power-Steering

Hi I drive a 1995 Nissan Quest and im having trouble finding the right power steering fluid. In my owners manual it says to use a ATF Type F for my power steering but there is so many brands out there and I cant decide which one is right for my van . What I really want to know is does it matter what brand I buy as long as it says Type F?.

No, brand doesn't matter as long as it is Type F.

Type F is type F. There's no guts or glory to buying a particular brand. The only synthetic type F is made by Redline, it's their Racing Transmission fluid.
You could also run Redline's Power Steering fluid which is 100% compatible with a type F p/s unit. I'm running it now in a 1993 Ford, no problems at all.

(Valvoline sells their Type F and FA dunno what the difference is, but it's the same stuff.)

I thought lots of brands were designed just for Ford Vehicals from what ive read on the labels. Would any recommend me using Type F from Advance Auto Parts?.

Type F is an atf that has minimal amounts of friction modifiers. It generally provides for firmer shifts and is excellent for PS units. As mentioned, Redline makes a synthetic type f (racing). Its a VERY tough ATF. John--Las Vegas

I'm running Dexron III/Mercon in our 96 Quest. Seems to work fine.

My 1996 Ford Contour specs Type F in the PS. The factory stuff stayed in for 9 years. It still looked and I had no problems, it was a nice wine color and no black build up in the reservoir. I just felt guilty about leaving it so long. I did multiple "turkey baster" drains and refills using Walmart Type F ATF. Works great and it was inexpensive. The fluid looks fine and works fine. I decided not to mix Mercon with the Type F. Glad I didn't.
