Mercon LV is Ford's latest flavour of Mercon. First there was plain Mercon, then Mercon V was added. In 2007 Ford dropped licensing of plain Mercon and Mercon V was reformulated to be backward-compatible.

Mercon LV is not supposed to be used in place of either of the earlier versions. BTW, the LV is for "low viscosity" and is comparable to GM's Dexron VI.

I hope no issues arise from me mixing all these kinds, Mercon V then ML "LV" and now just TransMax Mercon, its just so confusing.

Have you put the chassis up on a rack to see where it might be leaking?

Check the obvious location plus the dip stick tube seal.

You might have to take a cleaner and spray the underside to determine if it is just splash or a real leak.

Otherwise, quit sniffing automotive fluids and chemicals.

I did the same thing to my Taurus, only I was pouring it in the power steering pump. Brother, did it stink, and I only spilled a little bit. Drove it like that for a couple of weeks thinking it would burn off but no dice. Finally, I sprayed the entire engine compartment with WD-40, let it soak for about 30 minutes and then hosed it off with the garden hose. That helped quite a bit. The smell is still kinda, sorta there, but not nearly as potent as it was. Apparently, it doesn't take much to make a stink. I wonder how techs at transmission shops like this new stuff?
