I would like to try using ATF in the primary chain case of my motorcycle. The factory enlarged the engine to twice the original size, but basically left the clutch the same size. I use up a clutch every year and would like to try to make them last longer. The drive chain free play is taken up by adjusting a hard faced steel shoe against it. Presently engine oil, 20w50, is used for lubrication. Do you think an ATF would offer enough lubrication to stop the chain and adjusting shoe from wearing prematurely?
TIA

Like **** said, stick to a heavy duty oil. ATF has only about 1/10 the AW additives necessary.

Does the chaincase have it's own compartment so engine oil will not be contaminated?

At present it shares oil with the engine, but I am going to make it separate. I've been using Castrol Gran Prix (SG rated) 20w50. The chain and slipper work well and hardly ever need adjusting.

I'm using ATF in another bike, that you move the trans to adjust the chain. The clutches in those bikes have a habit of slipping when using the recommended engine oil. With ATF they work great.
