Should I do a full flush or just drop the pan. Also, how many quarts are needed for each method.

Naw I usually drop the pan, replace filter, and wipe the pan clean of any clutch material. About 6 quarts buy 8 to be safe.

+1

The Amsoil website lists capacities for basically every year/vehicle/transmission. Sometimes too much info as they list several transmissions for same model/year/engine, and you need to know which one is in your vehicle.

So there is no drain plug for the torque converter?

I agree with everybody. Drop the pan, clean out the pan and magnet, replace the filter and install a drainplug. Any Dex VI will do. Also, try a bottle of lubeguard red. When I switched my Malibu from Dex III to VI it was slightly harsh on shifts (not bad but not my standard of shifting) LG red smoothed it right up. Great stuff!

So there is no need to go with a full synthetic ATF like Mobil 1 or Redline even though I frequently race the car and will be installing a high stall torque converter soon?

Dex VI is at least a blend. Most being full syn. If you use Castrol or Valvoline I know they are full.

I've got a 05 with 112k on it (modded at 16k) making ~420hp at the wheels and runs a 11.7@114mph in the quarter. The 4L65e has a PI Vigelante 3200 stall converter on it and aftermarket cooler (transmission is otherwise stock). I've had no problems with the transmission changing the fluid every 20-25k with Mobile 1 Synthetic ATF (drop and clean pan and install new filter).

Mobile 1 ATF

Your results may vary ...

... good luck!

Jared & 98LSC32V - Sorry, can't help with the Auto, I have the 6 Speed in my GTO w/500HP at the wheels.

The Amsoil I have been running in all my other cars works fantastic, but sure you'll be fine with M1 ATF also.

Have fun!

I would have gone with 2800-3000 stall if I had it to do over ... it's a little loose for daily driving (opinions vary) ... 60fts in the 1.6x range consistently ...
