Car Care Nut says d/f Toyota sealed transmissions at 6 years or 60k miles. 6 years because ATF is hygroscopic. Do you experts agree? My 2020 Lexus ES350 only has 18k miles. Only 5 years old but I tend to do PM early since I am 76+ and like to get stuff done before I can’t. Thanks.

What do you think about a manual transmission that uses DCTF (Talking about a Getrag MT82)

I think these are somehow vented to the atmosphere correct? Humidity must get in somehow, but then also isn't it also boiled off?

ATF is hygroscopic so yes you should technically replace fluid based on years even if you don't reach mileage.

It is?

I was always under the impression that since most transmissions are vented to the atmosphere that they would, over time, pull in moisture and they don't run hot enough to drive off the water the same as an engine would. Not that the fluid itself is inherently pulling in the moisture (like brake fluid).

I recently changed the 25 year old ATF in my Mom's S10 (75k miles) and it came out looking perfect.. Personally I'd wait till you got the miles on it, or maybe at 10years just because.

That looks better than my LS430 was at 86k and 10 y.o., fluid was reddish black. Indie told me 100% no damage if you change it. I have 150k now and that was 8 years ago. I guess this implies I'm not concerned about time because I have no plans on doing a drain/fill anytime soon. Only 45% old comes out, and it was in the mid $100's, and 3 are needed.

Back then the GM Dexron III supplier was Petro Canada and that stuff was excellent.
I remember when the new Dex VI was introduced and it didn't flow as well at 40 below as the Petro Canada Dex III.
(that's a 20 year old data point so don't take it for more than that.)
