Comments:

The only difference between this sample and the last is mild elevation in iron. At this level such a long run on the oil is actually pretty normal, so this is nothing to fret about. Other metals stayed put, as did silicon. Since wear looks as nice as it does, we doubt silicon represents dirt. It's probably coming from silicone-based products that comes in contact with the oil, and in such case silicon is harmless. No contamination was noted, and the TBN read at 2.3. Try going 12,000 miles on the next fill.

Looks pretty good but it would look even better with a stock air filter. You silicon is way too high and the high iron wear reflects some dirt getting into your engine. You could go 12,000 easy with ASM.

Nice showing, but I don't see the iron wear as abrasive wear from dirt ingress because the soft metals are not following the expected ratios. They typically will spike at a higher ppm/1,000 mile ration before you see significant iron wear. K&N filters are not a good marriage for long term reliability, however, and cleaning maintenance if done improperly can really hurt you quickly. Amsoil EA elements are pretty stellar for the price. What is your driving style/mix? FYI-the mobil 1 filter looks like it served you well.

My driving is 75% highway 25% city. I will look into getting the Asmoil EaA air filter soon. I have been using M1 filters for the past several years w/ good results. This oil run was 13 months, and the 1st time running 0W/20. I have been thinking about adding a by-pass filter but still un-decided.

Your second interval will be much better as the additive package "beds in" so to speak. Amsoil is always a better performer the second time around for some reason. It's weird how some "synthetic" oils like PP just radically are effective the first interval you run them, but the benefits are what they are. As someone who has used the Amsoil products with UOA's for a while in multiple applications I can say that they take a few intervals to reach their potential, but they are still rock stars at the extended drains!

A fresh factory air filter or EA is what you want to run on the induction side. EA's are easy to clean and pretty cost effective because you can use them for a long time with only vacuum cleaning- at PC price they have a strong value proposition IMHO. Good luck!

Gee, where are all the syrup worshipers? You'd think they'd all be here to watch, as this poor engine explodes from being subjected to that nasty thin oil. . .

Thar she blows, matey!! Thar she blows...

06tC- Do you think it provides enough "protection"?

(from The Brady Movie)

Marsha! Take your shawl, it looks like rain

How about you, Bobby, do you have protection?

Yes, Mrs. Brady. In several colors and textures.

It looks like you overlooked the fact that this oil thickened to the SAE 30 range. Cheap 5W30 oils shearing down to 20 and expensive 0W20 thickening up to 30. Like they say, same difference.

ASM starts out at an advertised cST Viscosity @ 100 C= 9 Which is pretty much a thin 30 grade oil to begin with. I'd say for 10,000 miles it did well. It is also possible there was some residual oil from the previous fill that thickened it up a bit. The OP only has a 4 qt sump. If I read correctly this was his first run with the ASM.
