Hi,

I currently use a 75W80 GL4/5 oil (Kroon-oil SP1051) in my manual transmission and also have a MoS2 additive in it (Liqui Moly MoS2 gearoil additive, 20g tube). Is it possible to add ARX to this "mix" safely to clean the transmission? I still want to use this MoS2 additive afterwards coz it seems to work quite well for me but I like using ARX before changing oil so that the seals get a little reconditionning. So is ARX chemistry compatible with MoS2 or is it something I shouldn't try to mix?

Thanks

Hi, kilou.
You will have no problems using ARX together with Mos2 additives.
This is my peronal experience. The only thing, is that ARX will clean the metal, so that Mos2 clinging to the metal, will be washed away together with other contaminants.
Since you are planning to use Mos2 after the ARX application, this will not be a problem.

I would drain and refill with the same oil if the Kroon is shifing well. MT's don't need a flush unless they have been under water or have had long drain intervals, like over 50k miles.

I do not recommend using moly of any form in manual transmission fluids.

I was thinking about using ARX in the transmission to recondition the seals. I have a very minor leak at the gear lever control shaft and the seal can be changed only if the box is removed and overhauled (not something I plan to do for a leak that's really very minor). I thought that running ARX in the box for something like 3000km could be beneficial in that respect. What do you think?

As for moly, this has been a long discussion already. From what I've read here indeed there is no argument in favour of moly in a synchronized transmission. Theoretically it's supposed to lower friction and synchro need friction to work properly. So again theoretically the transmission should shift worse with MoS2 than without. I don't have any scientific proof of this but my real world experience is the opposite. The small improvements I felt are too subjective to be taken into account. However I can definitely say that MoS2 didn't make the shifting worse whereas this is what it's supposed to do theoretically. I've run this mix for 30000km now and I'm still satisfied with it. I really understand your expert point of view but in other hand I couldn't see nor feel the drawbacks of MoS2 in my box. Basically I'm using this additive not to shift better but to protect the bearings in this box because they are known to be fragile. I know a taxi driver who is using this additive in his car which has the same gearbox type as me and his car has over 400'000km (mine is close to 300'000km) so I figured it couldn't be bad for it. Moly is supposed to be good for bearings right?

Hi, kilou.
I missed a small part in your post. I believe that if you are trying to stop a leak, from the transmission, you need to use mineral oil. Should not be a problem doing some 3000 kilometers, to see if this could stop the leak. However, you might need to use only mineral oil for some kilometers, after the period of ARX usage. Good luck.

My current oil is a semi synthetic oil so it's supposed to be OK. Ican't find a 100% mineral oil with the grade 75W80 and protection level of a GL5 overhere.
