Car: 2001 VW Jetta 1.8T with 153K miles ,

I'm about 2400 miles into my Auto-RX cleaning phase cycle. I used the fast track program which involves 2 bottles of ARX in conjunction with Rotella T6 5W40. So far:

I have changed the oil filters twice in the last 2K miles (1 filter change per 1K miles using big Passat filter).

I have had to top off the oil about 3 times. I last topped it off about 300 miles ago and the dipstick shows is less than 1/2 full from the median mark or about 2/3 qt gone).

Is this normal during the cleaning phase? My Jetta used to burn about a quart every 1.2K now its burning thru oil at 500-600 miles/qt. What gives???

did you use T6 before? I had bad consumption before. Not sure due ARX or not, since I could not measure oil level before ARX treatment.

Yea I've used T6 extensively on the Jetta but switch to M1 OW40 during the winters.

So do you still get bad oil consumption?

no, but I've done lots of thing to correct it.
Check you PCV valve and hoses, maybe some crud got loose and clogged valve and hoses. I think ARX guys mentioned that it can lead to more consumption first, that it will stabilize.

From all that I've read on RX I would not worry about consumption......
I would be concerned if it is consuming oil after all treatments. Then I would try other oils......

Have you contacted auto-rx, I believe you can either e-mail or call them on the phone.

My 1.8T got clogged PCV system before and I had to replace many of the hoses which includes valves too. I hate to say it but the lanolin esters (semi-solid) can clog valves and small openings. I found them in the PCV system so highly advice against ARX in 1.8T engines. Check the hoses that you can and look for build-up. If you see quite a bit, then the system is probably clogged somewhere.

With a sudden increase in consumption I too would suspect the PCV.
Remove what hoses you can, clean it out with solvent, or replace.
Should this thread not be in the Additive section?

Yep I checked some of the pcv hoses they are caked in oil, valve cover gasket has oil all around the edges.

Keep in mind I had the pcv valve, breather hose, check valve, upper/lower hoses replaced about 40k miles ago.

I think the ARX might have amplified the problem. Can I simply replace the pcv and check valves? or do the hoses need to be removed/cleaned as well?
