I have heard it is a petrolium distillate and if used on viynal top causes cracking instead of stopping it is this true or internet rumor ???

It sure cracked the **** out of an antique car's dashboard when I tried it. Wont touch it again.

The only real way to see if it has petrol dist. in it is to get ahold of the MSDS or look on the bottle itself and see if it says the ingredients are flammable.

If you want something to clean your vinyl top, my brother kept his looking great for years with-no foolin'- saddle soap.

That was a *black* top in the central Texas sun. The vinyl top still looked perfect when he traded that car(Volvo Bertone) with over 300,000 miles on it.

I've heard of lots of cracked dash covers & vinyl tops from using Armor All. My other brother is one of my sources here- he'll tell you in a heartbeat to avoid Armor All.

*Oil nut note*: I believe he ran Castrol 20w50 in that car for a year or two, & then ran Mobil 1 15w50.

I've heard too many horror stories from ArmorAll to use it anymore. I picked up some 3M vinyl treatment/cleaner. Works great & dosen't smell bad either.

303 aerospace protectant. Has spf 40 for your dash, is water based, and doesn't contain silcone oils. Makes your dash look like factory new again without being shiny.

303 is good stuff!
It gives everything a "silky" sheen, not too shiny. Lasts longer than the other stuff, without the longterm damage!!
I also don't feel comfortable smearing petroleum distillates all over the plastic parts of my $30k investment.

another vote for 303.

My neighbour in Canberra had a cracked dash on his volvo, and called in a dashboard repair guy. He tested a bit of his adhesive, and stated that my neighbour had been using armorall, and there was no way nto repair a silicon impregnated dash.

He stated that they generally wouldn't crack with 303, and if they did, he could fix them.

Vinylex and Protectant 303 both work great with no petroleum or silicon to age your rubber and vinyl stuff. Pep boys carries Vinylex and some boat/RV shops carry the 303.

I have found the 303 leaves less shine on my dash board. They both get rid of that brown film that develops on tires.

Check out Protectant 303's web site they offer a free sample.

I never use anything on my dash but once several years back I took my company vehicle in to a quick lube place for service. Part of the service was vacuuming and cleaning the windows, dash etc. As I was driving away i noticed this awful glare in the windshield. Then I spotted the dash all shiny. About a mile away I could not stand it any longer and went back to complain. The used Armour All on the top of the dash. I was annoyed and since the serviced my vehicles every 5000 miles, I made then remove it. Easier said then done. The worked for about a hour trying to get rid of the shine which caused a reflective glare in the windshield.

Never put any of that kind of treatment on the part of the dash that can reflect in the windshield. Very annoying driving down the road on sunny days and seeing the dash reflecting in the windshield like a mirror.

I never went back the that quick lube again (it was a Pennzoil chain) and I had been going there since 1993. I hate the QL's but I was forced to use them by my employer, they gave a fleet discount and ran an acct.

Has anyone tried Meguiar's Natural Shine?

I too have stopped using AmorAll in favor of Vinylex and/or Meguiar's. Sounds like 303 is my next purchase.

The Armorall tire treatment has got to be the worst. How do they stay in business?

Sprintman,
I've picked it up at the summernats, and at an autoparts place in Tuggeranong.

But I haven't seen it for a while.

I agree on the 303... its great! the only place round here that carries it is called "boaters world"

But I use ECP "the protector" vinyl shield and leather shield
