I'll take a gas-electric over an all-electric any day. I'm almost 200 miles into my current tank, and including today's 75 miles of driving on I-10, I'm still averaging 52 mpg.
Four dollars per gallon will suck for everyone, irrespective of what you're driving, but it's a lot easier to swallow when your four dollars takes you 50 miles down the road, instead of only 15 or 20.
Incidentally, all hail Formula Shell dino 5w-30. I'm trying a fill of that stuff (put it in this weekend), and I've leapt from averaging in the high-40s to over 50 mpg. GC (my prior fill) is good stuff, but maybe just too thick for the Prius.

$5/US Gal petrol sucks, but not as much as $5.75 diesel.
