Whoopty! I guess I should be thankful that our 7-speed C300 gets 21 mpg average. It could have been 6-7% worse.

The new M5 turbo puts out 560 hp, and only calls for BMW/Castrol 5W30 oil, gasp!

So yeah...I say yes

I was under the impression it still needed 10w60, like all the Ms.
 
All the new M5s, M6s, X5Ms, X6Ms, 1Ms call for BMW 5W30...

Yes and no, different motors different specs.

You also have to remember that most German motors, err well the good ones have 8 quart+ sumps and large oil coolers. My last Mercedes had a totally separate radiator and T stat for the oil.

Don't foret,

BMW recommends 0w30 ll-01 FE

a fuel econnmy oil for the newer gas engines.

ll01 FE is usually 0w30 based on a5/b5 and hths is >3.0.

Vag also have 503/506/506.01 also a lower hths oil.
There are still new cars from vag that alow this oil to be used.
my dealer ( in the netherlands ) use this oil for the gas engine's ( all of them ) and the 507 spec for the dpf equipped diesel cars.
