Are we overmaintaining our cars?

I don't think so

I pretty much follow the OEM maintenance intervals for my car. That is far more than the typical car owner does and it will take me to 200K miles and beyond.

I work in a Kia shop, so I can get work done at a huge discount. When my tires get rotated, I have them inspect the car. If they find anything that needs attention, I get it taken care of.

Can you really maintain against body rot if you live in the salt belt?

Yes you sure can but it takes a lot of time and patience.
We do have some cars from the 50's and 60's that were bought here new and are garage queens now but they were all daily drivers at one time.

I don't even keep track anymore of miles since my last change. Since I found bitog, I just do a change in the spring and one in the fall, usually of a dino HDEO for the summer and a synthetic for the winter. I follow most of the service schedule otherwise, the odd time I go a bit longer on the gear and trans fluids but we do mostly hwy miles and I use semi synthetic gear oils.

I enjoy doing stuff to the cars. Oil change every 5k, transmission fluid and power steering fluid once a year. Coolant and brake fluid every other year. Diff fluid every 50k. It gets waxed once or twice a year.

So beyond oil changes, car washes once a week, fluid top off and checking tire pressure now and then, it gets my complete attention for a day or two for the entire year.

I'm not over maintaining, I just want it to last and do so with flying colors.

I bought the hype & wasted money on synthetic oil for years...since then, I stopped. My Cad gers oil.every 5k, same for my truck. Probably will go 6k in tje Cherokee.

Muzzleflash pretty much sums up my attitude towards my car. I'm pretty diligent with maintenance. During the summer, I'll wash it once a week, detail the interior once a month. I enjoy driving a well maintained, clean car. It gives me pride.

Thats it man. It may not be the best or newest thing on the road, but it's mine and I want it to look and drive it's best.
