I found that Costco has better deals on many of it's regular priced units compared to even black Friday sales (assuming like products, no comparing Vizio to Pioneer, etc) given that the 2nd year of warranty is thrown-in for free. 3rd year free warranty if you use AMEX for that purchase.

My mom had two different model Vizio LCD HDTV's in that price range last 2-4 mins before dying with a sizzle. My inlaws 4 year old Vizio they could not obtain a common failure part for so it went to TV heaven.

The replacement Panasonic in each case works fine.

I have 3 Vizios.1 26",1 42",and 1 47".

All going strong 2+ years.

The 47" is 120hrtz and the picture draws compliments every time.

I did buy the extended warranty on all just in case.

that's what i heard too.

Vizio is not made by Sony. It's a bottom-feeder brand that has great success given the price point.

Read this: http://hdguru.com/disposable-hdtvs-vizio-responds/108/
Also read the 200 responses. Eye-opening indeed.

Also, I'll say that the better brands ain't worth it either.
Purchased a 40" Panasonic. DOA, took it back, got a Samsung 46"
It lasted 2 years, 6 months worth of warranty hassles, got a replacement 240hz (!) for no upcharge .
Lately, this TV makes a churning noise when powering on.

So far, the lowest-priced 40" Toshiba and 32" Philips have served us best. Amazing.

I'm done with Panasonic.

Our first HDTV was a rear projection unit. Convergence amplifiers die every two years.

Second was a plasma. Power supply failed at - wait for it - 2 years again.

Bought a Toshiba Regza 42" about 3 years ago. My wife's Buckeye transplant friends come over on Saturdays to watch the games and we've had multiple compliments on the picture quality. There were never any compliments on the Panasonics' pictures.

We also have an SDTV Sony Trinitron 32". Weighs about 1000 lbs... (

okay about 150) I think we got it in '99. I don't remember exactly. It's gotta' be at least 10 years old though. It's still as good as any SD-tube type TV I've ever seen

Avoid Vizio and all other "lesser" brands - you will save a LOT of money in the long run by buying an established brand. Vizio is not made by Sony.

My Samsung 40" 1080p LCD I bought just over 2 yrs ago is still rock solid, and has a beautiful picture. One thing I like about Samsung is that they include picture adjustments that are very advanced and other brands only have them in special service menus where only a technician can access them.

I avoided Toshiba back then due to the "green monster" problem - they might have solved it since then. Sony also had a bunch of stuff going on, and Samsung was the one connected with least problems, and I think I made a wise decision. With the million adjustments it offers, and a few articles from AVS.com, I was able to calibrate/set up the TV to near professional levels, and couldn't be happier. It also has the great "any net" function, where any reputable blu ray or dvd player by major brands are detected - when I press play on the Panasonic blu ray player, the TV automatically turns on switches to the correct HDMI input - love it.
