Are there any supplements to take that will improve your memory and concentration ability that really work.

I did some searching on the internet and there are many that the different websites are trying to sell, but I can't tell if any of them are really any good or if they are all a bunch of snake oil.

Does anyone know of anything that really works, and if so what is it called and where can I purchase it?

Eat blueberries...seriously (anthocyanins/pterostilbenes). 3/4 cup or so will give you 1,000mg of blueberry anthocyanins.

L-Theanine. Drink caffeinated coffee? Supplement with an equal amount (100mg caffeine = 100mg L-theanine)

Chew nicotine gum while doing whatever you need memory/concentration for.

I took something for awhile but I don't remember what it was or if it worked....
(sorry...couldn't help it)

Dang it!!! I forgot what I was going to say >:(

Edit: Ginkgo Biloba. I've seen that for years while browsing the supplement aisle. Never tried it though.

Just had a seminar on it by a Nutritionist yesterday. Omega3 (Fish, Flax flour, Spinach, and soybeans), Vitamin B12 (liver and eggs), and anti-oxidants (fruit, coffee, Tea and beans).

I do supplements in addition to these, especially B-12. With the B-12 its best to take all the B vitamins (B Complex)
When you do Vitamins do NatureMade..they are "USP"

Board games, card games, Suduko, and games that require you "think". As they used to say, "if you don't use it, you lose it." The brain might not be a muscle, but neural pathways are things to be built and maintained just the same.

Think of it as the all-natural way.

I recently started playing Suduko, and at first was horrible--my wife would blow me away with how fast she would do 'em. After a hundred games or so, I'm much better.

I definitely agree with this. I like to work math problems in my spare time (the way people like to do crosswords). Also,a good night's sleep will work wonders!!

Most studies say "use it or lose it"...tests on a bunch of Nuns who were "with it" until they passed shoeed that they still had the holes and lesions of anyone else their age, but the neural plasticity and their constant challenging board games and crosswords kept them highly functional.

Al's is good...liver and eggs has K2 too, which while not on topic will make sure your body puts Ca in your bones and not your arteries.

If you are stressed (sometimes you won't know that), you won't do either well...meditation is good for all three, but working out how to get "out of the box" will make the best of the moment.

If you are a little flat, coconut oil can fuel your brain with ketones (rather than glucose)...my boss was having issues with his type 2 diabetes, and we tried fueling him with 1tsp coconut oil before teleconferences to great effect.

I think user's SteveSRT8 missus knows a bit more about the effects on older individuals and ketones/coconut oil....

I do most of the puzzles in our daily paper. I try to make time for at least the NYT crossword, and like Sudoku, the Thomas Joseph crossword, the Crypoquote, and sometimes the Four Word. Found them all hard at first, but like anything, the more you practise the better you get.

I justify the time as brain exercise.

They say that resistance training (i.e. weights) is also very good for the brain.

Say the alphabet backwards. You'll be surprised how it'll sharpen things once you can do it for a few weeks.
