I saw some oil filters both claiming oem for my tacoma but some are nippon and some are denso. There is a guy selling 4 nippon "oem" filters on ebay for $16 and I was interested in purchasing them if they are the good oem oil filters. Anyone have any idea?

Don't be so sure. Nippon is a common first name of Japanese companies.
There is Nippon Steel, Nippon Air, etc. all of which are not neccessarily related, just as General Electric and General Motors are different companies.
I'm not sure about Nippon oil filters, but would not simply assume that they are Denso products.

Are the denso oem filters that good or is it fine to go with a good name brand? I've just seen a lot of toyota guys swear by oem filters and a lot say they stink.
I think Nippon and Denso have split, hence Denso spark plugs now instead of ND's.
Anyway I bought these filters from

I cut one open and they look like a quality filter, but I don't think I'd buy them again.
That retailer represented them as OEM, but when cut open side by side with a Genunine Toyota filter they are NOT the same. The filter material (paper?) is different.
Although it looks like it's pretty high quality, the misreprentation and the fact that they're made in Maylasia will keep me from buying them again.

Nippon is just a name for VIC filters, Denso does make them aftermarket under the First Time Fit label.
Nippondenso is a long name for Denso, they shortened it to Denso in 1989-1990.
Just few weeks ago I went to a Toyota dealer and bought 20 oil filters each costing $3.39 plus tax with a dealer coupon. When I insalled one of them last week, I was surprised to find its top was coated with grease and covered with plastic wrapper. I thought it was made in Japan. It turned out it was made in Thiland.
