I change the oil in my aunts car, a 2013 kia soul, at 5k intervals. I usually use the oem kia filter. I was reading about Nippon filters, how they look almost exactly like the oem kia ones. I ordered one from Napa. It says Nippon filter, Ultra 8,looks just like the kia filter, the only thing I dont like is that its made in China but ill try it out. Should i expect the same performance and no start up noise like the oem filter? Is the nippon built to the same specs? I also noticed lately the oem filters Ive been buying say Mann-Hummel Korea on them.

I agree that it will likely be ok. But I went to the NAPA site to look at the specs and the warranty. This is what it says: "Warrantied to be free of defects in workmanship and materials within THIRTY DAYS (30) from date of purchase. This warranty is not transferable."
If you compare that to the Napa Gold Warranty, there's a big difference imo. Basically with the NG there is warranty coverage for the length of the vehicle manufacturer recommended oci. That covers any damage to the engine caused by the filter. This is similar to Purolator, Fram, Wix(same filter) and many other reputable oil filter manufacturers. I don't see that mentioned for the Nippon Ultra8 filter. Napa Filter Warranty
If I owned vehicle still manufacturers warranty, I would think twice before using a Nippon filter because of the warranty. An older vehicle would be less of an issue.
As for the color and appearance of the Nippon filter looking similar to a Hyundai/Kia filter, that means very little. As the linked thread below shows, this has been discussed before. They also make a filter that looks similar color-wise to a Honda OEM, but it isn't OEM. So, Caveat Emptor.

^^^ Good catch on the warranty statement sayjac. I agree, I don't think I'd use the Nippon filter on anything though, even on a car with no factory warranty because if the filter caused any engine damage I'd still be out of luck.
