Are Michelins really better than the other brands?

Hi.
Fwiw. I had Kumho solus KL21 on my Jeep. I called them the ditch finders. They could be scary in the rain. Switched to Michelin Latitude Cross and it transformed the handling in the wet. Much better in snow too. My Michelins were made in Poland.
Put a set of Michelin Cross Climate on my wife's Vauxhall and have been very happy.

Not sure if its been mentioned yet, but with all the discussion over where the tires are made, Tirerack lists where they are made if you click on "specs for all sizes" for the specific tire. Many many tires of the exact same model are made at different factories based on the tire size, ie a 205/45/15 may be made in thailand were as the 225/45/17 will be made in Japan for the exact same model. This held true for almost all the brands and models of tires i was browsing, with some sizes made in the home country of the maker while about half were a mix of Thailand, Indonesia and China.

My experience is Michelins ARE a good step above other brands (and costs). They came on many of the new cars I bought. I also would replace them with new Michelins when my sons lived at home, drove my cars and we used to travel across the USA 2-3 times a year on road vacations. Now that its just the wife and I retired and can't do long travelling any more (health issues) I can not see paying the price for them. We do not even put 7000mi a year on our cars. So I purchase Goodyears the last ten years. Have used Hankook and they ride great but wear out / the road eats them up far too quick.

My answer would be not always.

My primacies weather checked badly in under 3 years, enough that the lexus shop had the Michelin rep out to look and I got a significant discount on a replacement set. Everyone involved was surprised at what they saw. ..

..and yes I got a better deal from my shop that I could on my own.
I miss my Lexus service writer Tim.
He took exquisite care of me and I rewarded him with everything but oil changes.

Yes Michelins are better. I have a set of what is called T+H on my Civic and am nearing 50,000 miles on them with lots of tread left. I have owned Civics for 20 years and these Michelin's have been by far the best. I will put them on my truck when it needs them.

I have used Goodyear, BFG, Bridgestone, and Michelin on performance cars. Michelin was the best, most well rounded. On passenger/SUV vehicles, I have used Continental, Michelin, Firestone, Nokian, and again, Michelin was the best, and most well rounded.
AGREE. I gotta ask. Your USERNAME that is WS6.... indicates to me you must be Pontiac thru and thru? The Pontiac Firebird WS6 models are just another car I am looking at seriously to attempt get into. I made a rash decision about 18 months ago and sold my long time owned 1976 Chevrolet Chevelle Laguna Type S3 due to health issues and not being able to work on my cars much anymore. Since a week after it was gone I been stuck to the computer screens searching high and low for a classic that is somewhat newer than what I sold. Something with fuel injection for sure and that I could use as a daily driver / not a show car like the one I sold. The Firebird WSJ packages intrigue me so much. After hearing from people about how advanced the WS6 package was and the overall effect it had on the ride / handling and suspension it sounds exactly like the things I was trying to accomplish with my chevelles... upgraded several suspension components to new and better and was still looking to do more to get that well known body roll out of the army tanks size & weight 70s era cars.
What muscle ? automobile do you currently own or see in your sleep like I do? If I am guessing correct about you being into the
Pontiacs? I recall the: We are driving Excitement -Pontiac
