One persons pet is another persons livestock.

I'll try just about anything once. That includes dog, cat, snake, whatever. My father-in-law is from Mississippi,he brings back some strange stuff. Some of the stranger things are Oppossum,Squirrel,home-made Pork rind complete with some hair still attached. I also ate some Camel when my friend went to Australia.

As far as eating a dog or cat,its not like I'm going out back to snuff out Fluffy and throw her on the BBQ. If I were in a country where that kind of thing was served,I would probably try it.

Thanks a lot Mori. Now I have an image in my head of Pablo licking a table.

I've tried it once, and can say I won't be trying it again, unless there's nothing else to eat. It was rather gamey.

But as pets, theyr'e good since they eat really cheap, like rabbits, but they need some fresh greens for vitamin C.

I've had a few piggies in the past. Just a few warnings-they love to bite at things (like fingers) to check them out. OUCH! Also, they do not have great immune systems. If they get sick, they die in about three days. And there's not much you can do about it.
Otherwise, I loved them. They're great stress relief, sitting on your shoulder and 'weebling' quietly in your ear while you pet them. Just have a towel on your shoulder.

Jeez, how much do those little things poop anyways

Fried Guinea Pig (Ayacucho-style)

1 guinea pig, de-haired, gutted, and cleaned

1/2 c. flour

1/4 - 1/2 t. ground cumin

salt and black pepper to taste

1/2 c. oil

Pat dry the skin of the guinea pig and rub in the cumin, salt, and pepper. Preheat oil. Dust the carcass with the flour and place it on its back in the oil, turning to cook both sides. Alternately, the guinea pig can be cut and fried in quarters.

Serve with boiled potato or boiled manioc root, and a salad of cut tomatoes and slivered onions bathed in lime juice and a bit of salt. Have cold beer on hand.

Think of a gunipig as a bowling ball that can bites and craps! I would not catagorize them as good pets but then again I do not like fish as pets either!

So we picked up the guinea pig yesterday! His name is James and he's very friendly. My son just loves him!

andrews, You would be amazed at the stuff you will eat after three days of not eating. After a week of not eating much all bets are off!! When I went to survival school I lost 40lbs and gained 20 of it back for a net lose of 20lbs! It rained the amost the entire time. It was hot and good water was a chore to collect and sanitize!

On top of the food shortage all of our survival gear other then our knife and small hatchet had to fit in an old school tin bandaid box!In addition to finding food daily we had to track down sentry's and nuatrilize them. We had to build man traps in addition to our wild game traps! You also had hand to hand and knife fighting.

It was taught by Army Ranger's and Green Bert in the moutains of Georgia! It was latter band by the Boy Scouts for a long time until they could design their own program to replace it.

I freq. will go camping with nothing more then what I can carry. If I take a tent I am on vaction! My wife will not go camping with me. I love the challenge of liveing off the land!

If ever you want to see a great documentry I highly recomend (Alone in the Wilderness)!!! IT is the best $21 you will spend if you like outdoor shows about "Frontier" like topics!! THis guys builds a log cabin in the Alaska all buy himself and makes most of his tools and untensils from scrap. Then he lives their until he is like 80 years old. He decides he has had enough and turns his place over to the Park Services. THe documentry is about him build his log cabin over the course of summer. It also shows him hunting and fishing. He is all by himself for the whole thing. THe scenry is breath takeing!!!

Sorry for the link but it is such a wounderful documentry I thought it would be ok! PBS gives this away as your gift for like a $250 dollar donation.

When I was at Outward Bound in the mountains of NC,TN, SC, and GA back in 1978 fro a month, I would have appreciated being out there without having to lug a 60-70 pound pack everywhere we went. I hate being overburdened with equipment and gadgets. We weren't allowed to kill and eat anything, but we did eat some various plants.
It took a long time to get used to sleeping in a bed and eating real food again.

Just drive to the nearest state line before enjoying your lunch, then you won't feel so guilty

Anyway, I am very open minded when it comes to what I eat. I have eaten frog legs, snails, squid, and octopus. I think I would be willing to try just about anything.....once.

When my dad was in Thailand, he never asked what he was eating. He just ate it and enjoyed it. He said it was usually pretty tasty.

There is this restaurant in Singapore. It is one of those chinese herbal places and Anthony Bourdain was there in his Chef's Tour series. On company account, I brought my esteemed guest there and had snake gall and fried ants. It was a like a Fear Factor episode! My guest loved it!

Guinea Pigs pee - A LOT - A WHOLE LOT - Practically oceans of the stuff.

You need to change their litter daily and perhaps 2-3 times daily to be certain things are kept clean.

Otherwise they are great.

Happy Motoring All,
