Apple won’t change my battery

I have a 13 pro max that has 79 percent battery . Went to the Apple Store to have them change it out .

They said they could not do it because the back glass is cracked . Seems odd as the battery comes out the front after the front glass is removed .

They said I need to replace the back glass at $599. I guess my only recourse now is to go third party

The way you disassemble the phone is likely to further damage the back glass and can cause it to shatter. It's a liability issue to accept that for a repair. I'd suggest just using your phone the way it is... 79% battery health is still totally usable.

This. Get as much time out of it now.

Then just get a new phone.

IMHO, sunk cost already. But that's just how I roll.

I had Apple replace a broken screen one time. Took like 3 hrs after they had the phone. 2 hours of that was waiting for the persons phone ahead of me to calibrate. Learned at that point aftermarket screen replacement was not for me. They don’t calibrate like Apple does.

In September the 13 Pro Max will be 5 years old. Longer than most people keep their phones. Get through til then and get a new phone.

Invest in an inexpensive battery pack if you don't have immediate access to a wall plug.

This will charge it almost 3 times per charge

I get it's annoying from your perspective, they're not going to take the liability of damaging the phone. If they pop it open and the water sensors are tripped they'll put it back together and give it back with the same battery.

My son had his charging port board changed out at UBreakiFix in Charlotte (they have several locations.) It was an iPhone 16 and was like $179. Pretty quick repair. Apple wouldn't fix it, they said they would change out his phone for a refurbished one. My son opted to just have it fixed on his own dime. We still would have had to pay the deductible, so it didn't cost much more.

Sounds perfectly reasonable. The strain from removing the front glass will almost certainly damage the back further, probably to the point of making the phone unusable, then you'd expect them to cover it.

I'm not an Apple fan but am totally with them on this.
Think of this, someone brings a car in to get shocks replaced in struts but springs are cracked, would you just attempt doing the shocks as per request?

so i found a authorized Apple third party called them up and explained the situation. they said they were surprised at the response ,and told me they would do it with no issue .

going to take it to them tommorow for them to take a look

Same phone at 79% and it lasts me all day so I am good with it. Plenty fast as well.

In my experience, and maybe the "Pro" models with bigger batteries are better for this, once you get around 85% on non-Pro / Max models, depending on your usage of course, you're lucky to get more than 10 hours before you're looking for a charger. It's been so consistent like this for me that I'm considering a Pro or Max when I replace my 15. I don't like the bigger size as I like to carry my phone in my jeans or shorts pockets and these are noticeably bigger. My first iPhone was my wife's 6+ when she upgraded and I decided to try an iPhone from Android.
