Apple IOS 26

I find the text contrast (or lack thereof) in the notification area slightly annoying. There’s a “reduce transparency “ setting that improves this but makes things uglier.

Apple … Because nothing says simplicity more than hiding the controls.
It’s a delicate balance. I think they actually do a pretty good job. Their search feature works well.

Im scared to install it as I normally am until any possible bugs get worked out. (will see if I can hold out or not for 26.1
I did note that I noted in the OP the same experience in the unusual jump in version numbers had me confused for a moment.

The version is just a number and really could be anything. Tying it to a date means more than a random number so I am OK with jumping to IOS26. It is easier to tell how old a version is when tied to the date. I installed on my iPad and it works great, but just haven't taken the time to update my phone yet. Probably will do it this week, since I know several people running it without problems.

I like the look, but a few gripes. In notes the cursor goes to the bottom of the screen but the page doesn’t scroll up; so you can’t see what you’re typing for errors. Not a fan of the block of space at the bottom of safari either. Not a huge fan of the picture library, I’ve defaulted to using the search feature when I want to find something.

For fitness, having a set of screens on the phone that mimic the watch are nice when you’re using a treadmill or elliptical and don’t want to look at your watch for stats. The look seems more advanced or developed, it had a kids toy look before to me; CarPlay seems more polished too.

Best thing they did was make changes but left stuff familiar so you’re not starting from scratch; don’t want all new just for the sake of being new and needing to relearn a bunch.

And my battery life definitely seems to have taken a hit, as have others I’ve talked to. I’m running a 16 pro max.

I could have posted that better I guess. Im not concerned about the jump in version numbers.
I am more concerned on jumping on the first version of anything brand new until an update comes out. Part of this concern was because I was in the Windows world for well over two decades and remember a time ... well you know. Actually it's been a blessing since I have no more Windows devices in my life, actually we are all Apple desktops, MacBook, iPad , phones. Wife has kept one, a Lenovo laptop and her company provided workstation of course.

Not as concerned in todays world, more so with Apple but some of those past bad experiences are hard to forget.😞
Not saying Apple devices are perfect and intuitive but in my life, much less stressful and annoying.

I was on the developer beta all summer and am now on the public release. I say that to establish the point that I’m the type of person that likes to tinker. That being said, I do not care for the update. I generally like the latest update, but it feels like a step back in some ways to me. UI/UX that doesn’t make sense. Things are harder to find now for the sake of looking clean and modern.

Interesting, I have automatic updates enabled but went to the Software Update page and iOS 26 is available but not downloaded.

As much as I like Apple products, I do believe they are not as intuitive as other systems.
Such as android and maybe windows, but I can’t speak for Windows cause I haven’t used it in a long time.

I remember when we first moved into the Apple world and now we have a mix of six of their devices in our house, including two desktops and a notebook. I used to pull out my hair sometimes trying to find stuff and it’s not just because I’m older we brought up the subject with a young doctor in our family and she agreed Apple devices are not as intuitive.

With that said Apple still our preference as well as that as family members.
Though my wife still loves her Lenovo notebook and I still have to help her find stuff when she uses her Apple desktop

Overall I still think Apple is fairly intuitive for most things, just that iOS 26 and macOS 26 was a step backwards in ease of use. For how awful Windows is, there is no competition there imo. I would use Linux much sooner than Windows these days.

It should improve after a few days. It’s gotta run a bunch of background tasks/cleanup from install.

But yeah… been on it since it was in “developer” stage on my 13 Pro Max (alpine green gang!). Gonna be real honest with yall, after using it for a few months I have entirely forgotten what the old UI looked like, and most of the “tweaks” I don’t even notice… either because I didn’t use it to begin with or it’s just intuitive enough I didn’t notice it changed.
