API Approves SN

I think what the OEM are trying to prevent is exactly what a lot of folks do on this site, telling someone to use HDEO in all applications just because it states API SM on the label. The OEM does not want us to use anything other than what they recommend and they want the support from the API. So your 5W-20, 5W-30, 10W-30, and now maybe 10W-40 will state API SN Resource Conserving, which is the same as GF-5, and the HDEO will state API CJ4/SN, which does not meet GF-5 specs.

The problem will be how is the API, oil companies, and OEM going to educate the general public about all of this. You know, the 270,000,000 that are not a member of BITOG.

You mean "these" people?

When I was growing up, there was all that talk about "flying cars" and whatnot. Can you imagine the flying equivalent of a '74 Pinto limping around in our skies today, with bailing wire holding the muffler up?

Doubtful. I doubt they'd go THAT far for fuel economy. We're not even at xw-10 yet...
