Anything wrong with NAPA synthetic ?

These specifications however, are not as broad as the Valvoline standards, therefore the Valvoline will cover more applications.

Napa will want their oil "more affordable" because it is their house brand. They won't want to pay the full cost for Synpower.

There does seem to be some differences (maybe statistical standard errors of measurement) between respective grades. Maybe they are slightly different?

But if they were the same, I wouldn't expect Ashland to say so. Why would they admit that an oil selling for a fair discount over their labeled Synpower is in fact the exact same oil? Wouldn't make good business sense.

Using it in the '14 Silverado. Dexos rated 0W-20 and no issues.

I thought they were the same ... guess I was wrong.

But what you said makes sense though. IF NAPA Synthetic and Valvoline SynPower were exactly the same, who would ever buy SynPower then?

To the OP:
I have used NAPA Synthetic and Conventional before, and I will use both again in the future. Nothing wrong with the NAPA oil ... use it with confidence.

NAPA synthetic; vs. NAPA synthetic;

Of course most people can't even see the font differences unless they're using an up to date browser with up to date java scrip.

Aint no nevermind to me anywho - on this UNIX BSD laptop both lines are the same

Napa Syn.....IMO......is unimpressive for a synthetic. Its a low-tier synthetic. I would not go beyond 7K OCI.

For a few bucks more, you can purchase a top-of-the-line syn (M-1, PP @ Wm), and do OCI's of 10K or better.

That's what I was thinking. Looks almost identical.

Don't tell anybody, but I chickened out and went and bought a 5-quart bottle of ST synthetic tonight.

Nothing wrong with ST, but Napa is the same price and comes in the quart bottles that are easier to pour (and the Napa bottles are one of the best designs I've seen with a nice, long neck), and if you use less than 5 quarts, the remainder is in a smaller bottle rather than the big jug.

Maybe Napa Synthetic/Synpower isn't the greatest synthetic out there, but for $3.49/qt (or even $2.99 if you're lucky enough to get a coupon) you can't go wrong.

5w20 I am guessing?

I would water that down with a quart of MMO so it isnt too thick. You dont want to wear out your starter.

I agree, and from what I have gathered from Merkava's posts in the past, he doesn't extend his OCIs to 10,000 miles or 7,500 miles. So, even if NAPA Synthetic is not capable of a 10,000 mile OCI (as indicated by another post in this thread), it wouldn't matter in this case. The NAPA Synthetic will do just fine in this case.

By the way, I also like the quart bottles better than the 5-quart jugs for the same reasons you listed.

NAPA 0W-20, 5W-20, and 5w30 are all dexos1 licensed.

In order to meet dexos1 spec, the oil must be able to go the OLM mileage which on some vehicles are 8K or more.

So while NAPA Synthetic might not be as good as SynPower, it is obviously good enough to use in GM's new engines for 8K or more.

+1

I don't go 8K or more, but I agree with your post.

..... and when I can buy NAPA Synthetic for $3.49/quart or less (or NAPA Conventional for $1.99/quart) for myself or for someone else, I am certainly not going to pass on the opportunity. Also, I don't need 5 quarts of oil for my oil changes; thus, I like the single quart bottles better (and it's also easier to pre-fill the oil filter from a quart bottle). This is one of the reasons I like to buy oil from auto parts stores ... they regularly have sales on their quart bottles of motor oil, and their oil and filter specials typically allow for either the 5-quart jug or 5 single-quart bottles. But this is all just my preference/opinion, of course.
