Tried watching. Big yawn. I don't remember IROC having a bunch of old retired guys racing. Maybe it will be better on dirt?
They got the name wrong....

I agree with you on your last point. Nothing personal against Danica, but she seemed to know very little about the cars or most of the drivers, and I feel they could find a better match for bestwick in the booth. Overall though I liked what I saw and I'm looking forward to next week.

Glad you liked it, I didn't see anything to get me to watch another one. Was curious about the IROC drivers and looked up the last time it ran in 2006. Stewart won the series and here is the list of drivers. I don't think any were over 50 much less 66 (Ribbs & Elliot).
Since the comparison is being made to IROC I seemed to remember the IROC cars were always colorful and it was easy to ID the drivers by name and number. Not so much with these gray cars with the driver's name on the rocker panel and small number on the wing uprights. Any racing is probably better than no racing hopefully people like it and they can run for 30 seasons. And there is a game you can buy to race against the legends maybe that's important to get a younger audience?

I think the loose comparison to IROC probably needs to fall by the wayside and allow the name recognition to carry the series. One note about it being all "retired old guys"; Ernie Francis Jr is in his early 20s with 7 trans am championships to his name. I think if the inaugural season is marginally successful, you'll see more "current " drivers running in coming seasons. I could imagine someone like Kevin Harvick being invited at some point, and hes still in his prime.

They have 6 races scheduled to polish things up and see how many people like it. I didn't say "all retired old guys" in SRX I said I didn't remember a bunch of old retired guys racing in IROC. Just don't see the point of having guys looking hard at 70 racing against 20 something champions and the local legend (ringer?) Coby with thousands of laps around the home track. Respect to the elders for getting back in a car.

Ok.
I enjoyed it. I think people are overthinking this. It isn't supposed to be a super competitive championship. It is supposed to be fun entertainment with some drivers from multiple disciplines in equal equipment.
My only real Takeaway was... those cars, esp from behind, look like an F40....
Ray Evernham designed them... did he always want an F40 maybe? but Mr.H (or MRs. Evernham..) wouldn't let him get one?

hopefully Ferrari doesn't "come after" them.

That's the jyst I get. I know I'll be watching Saturday night. I find it refreshing to watch stock car racing where I recognize the drivers again.

Like the movie Cars? Got it.
One of the drivers, Willie T maybe, said it was supposed to be like a golf tournament where you have older players competing against younger players. Got a chuckle out of that, when I want to take a little nap on a Saturday afternoon I sit down in my favorite chair and turn the golf match on.....zzzzzzz.
Try it.I wish they would have actually used real production cars like the IROC series did. The cars are not great looking imo. Short tracks are mostly boring for the most part. Too much single file racing on the inside groove. Bristol is a good short track because there are usually two grooves.
