I think mothers or someone makes a dye that is to be used on outside rubber trim pieces to restore the trim to a dark black. I use mothers back to black all the time and the trim still looks pretty good but there are a coupe areas that are lighter grayish in color and not the dark black. this is on one of my other vehicles not the Tacoma. Any help would be appreciated, thansk

Well if you want the black to stay rather than it fade back to dull or white from wax residue, as is often the case with Back to Black, I HIGHLY recommend you use Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser.

Get you a couple boxes but just dunk them in some water and scrub the black trim and it will clean out all that wax residue, if that be the cause of the discoloration. I used the Magic Eraser on my trim a couple months ago and havent had to touch Back to Black since.

none of it is wax though, I am pretty meticulous on how I apply wax (zaino actually) I think it is just starting to fade from the sun a bit. I use back to black religously on the parts though.

I have back to black from mothers and I have trim shine from stoner. I have actually found trim shine to proivde a deeper black where mother's couldn't. Only thing is that trim shine is spray, so may be harder to control its application.

!!WARNING!! Magic Eraser is abrasive and will satinize your plastic trim!!!

This is common knowledge on autopia (the detailers equivilent to BITOG).

Synthetic shield, this is more than once you have recommended magic eraser, maybe you can't see what its doing to your trim, but it is not reccommended at all by the detail freaks.

'Forever Black' is a cleaner/dye system that will return your trim to dark black.
Search for it on google.
It is around 12 bucks.

I bought som auto trim restorer from an info mercial about 1982.

It made the 10 year old sun bleached phony wood decals on my 1972 Dodge D100 SE look like new. It also made the skin on my fingers wrinkle and the skin peel off in a few days.

I was cleaning out my garage a couple of months later and the plastic bottle it came in was cracked, empty and brittle.

Does anyone have any idea what that stuff actually was?
