Just wondering if anyone uses one of these? Since a considerable amount of wear occurs when the engine is started and the oil pressure is not up to specs, these devices seem like a good way to prevent wear until the oil pressure comes up.

I used a preluber for a while for shutdown protection for the turbo. It gave me a little peace of mind for startup too but the primary purpose was for the turbo at shutdown. I'm sure it helps some but many people would agree that most wear occurs during the warmup process, not just the initial start.

I've been using one for close to 20 years. I have an pre-luber mounted to the fender well in my van. I flip a toggle switch and watch the oil pressure gauge, when it's in the normal range I start the engine up. I also use it to cool the engine after a long trip in hot weather, flip the switch and pump oil through the engine after shutting it off.

The main reason I bought it was this vehicle sat for weeks on end, and it was nice to get oil flowing through the engine after it sat for a long time prior to starting it.

As a side note, during winter time synthetic oil 5w30, pumped through the pre-luber will build pressure and start flowing long before 5W30 dino will.

I think he's using a pre-luber. That's actually a brand name. Electric pump with a brain box that you can set to control how long it runs after you shut the engine down. I believe some models are sold without the box and shutdown feature too.

I hadn't heard the term "pre-luber" before, just "pre-oiler." Obviously you're talking about the same thing. I didn't realize they were not only helpful for cold starts, but for cooldown, too. I love the concept, and I've always been a bit jealous of those who have them installed...
