it'll do ya better to throw it in the lake, but maybe the satisfaction won't be the same?

I wrestle with the same question. I'll probably have it made into something for my daughter.

I have my old wedding ring, and old ring (gold and diamonds) from my "granddaddy" and a gold chain from my ex-wife as well. I could have a pretty nice set of earrings made for my daughter.

My wife and I sold a few of her old un-wanted gold jewlery. Got a decent amount from it. It was just laying there, so why not make money off of it.

I actually think we bought some things for her saturn with it, lol.

+1, my sister was given a pendant made from my parents' wedding rings melted down and re-cast. parents are still married though btw. ??

looking at buying some bullion coins from the Perth Mint. Two reasons why I wouldn't:

1. You have to provide photo ID before you are allowed to buy, and they check your address against a database.
2. The Mint's cut is ridiculous. If you buy 1/10 ounce coins, you are paying about $1800 per ounce. 1/2 ounce cast bars are about $1500. if you ever had to sell back, then you get hit a second time and they undercut you relative to the average market price. Simply not worth it!
