Anyone out there with 500,000 miles or more?

Have a look here for a list of High mileage Saabs. My 1991 Saab 900 2.1 16V currently has 415k km (250k mi) on the odo, I'm on the 200-250 page. I know a guy (Thom van der Wiel, second page on that Saab high mileage list) that has a 1982 Saab 99 GL which is currently at 622k km (377k mi), sport camshaft (because he likes to fly with the car

) and doesn't want to replace/refurbish the head so he is using modified shims to achieve proper valve clearance. we both run our cars on LPG and I know I wouldn't mind eating my dinner from my opened engine block because I had to open it up to replace my timing chain.

A buddy of mine has an '85 BMW 325e with well over 500K on the original auto tranny, the engine blew a head gasket a few years ago, he did a valve job and replaced the head gasket. The tranny has never been opened.

He beats on the car pretty hard - he got it new in high school 20 years ago. The odometer stopped working in '91 with 180K. At the time his commute to college was 160 mile round trip 3 times a week. in the mid 90's he drove it to california. for the last 10 years he has been living in mojave, and drives to L.A. everyday for work. It is about 100 miles each way every day. just commuting that is 50K a year. He has been doing the commute for 10 years.

The body on the car is in decent condition, the Air conditioner has been repaired a couple of times, the power windows have stopped working on occasion.

He changes the oil every 6 months with 20w50 dino oil. Obviously it is lots of highway miles.

He has been talking about buying a new car for many years, but he is convinced that he would rather drive a million mile bmw than a new accord. He has considered a new bmw 330, but fears that it won't be as reliable as his old one.

I have a 1981 Toyota4X4. It now has 630K on original engine. The head gasket was rotten at 400K so I pulled the head;did a valve job and re-installed. The first 325K the engine got Havoline at 3-5K intervals and then I switched to 5W40 synthetic diesel oil at 5-7K intervals. Bottom end of engine is original as well as the original transmission, transfer case;rear end.It has the original double-row timimg chain from the factory! Later model 22R'S had a single row chain that was good for 150K at best.
