So, has a particular 5w-20 proven to have consistently good used oil analyses here at BITOG?

I'm about to do my first oil change in my new car and I'm wanting an oil that has a proven track record.

To make my request even more difficult, I would like a GG-5 "SN" rated oil.

I would rather avoid synthetics and other outrageously priced oils.

Is there a 5w-20 with a following like German Castrol?

Alot of people on here like Motorcraft synblend. You can get it in a 5 quart jug for cheaper than Pennzoil YB, or Castrol GTX usually. Really, any 5w20 that is rated SN would probably do the trick! Best of luck!

Agreed. Plus, depending if you're running an OCI on the shorter side (don't know if you are or not), any SN 5w-20 will deliver an excellent UOA.

No, I'm asking for someone's opinions based on their UOA. What good is it talking about oil if we can't figure out the BETTER ones to spend our less and less valuable money on in this "gouge their eyes out" market. Trying to keep my car in good shape for as long as possible.

Truth.

j_mac, if you understand the 2 posters above you should buy a national band name on sale with/without rebate whenever possible to keep your oil cost down to minimum.

Since you pay a lot less for oil you can shorten your normal OCI by 20-30% and your engine will spotless after 100-150k miles.

And yet Valvoline shows great UOA's for their "weak" additive packages.
