Anyone invest with Ric Edelman?

What is your money invested in? What fees are you being charged?

I have my Roth IRA with Vanguard and use their targeted date funds since their fees are low, and with my company 401k I self manage and invest in index funds since the other investments have high fees.

I sold Ric a car many years ago. Very detail oriented and particular. If I were to recommend any financial adviser for a neophyte investor, it would be him. Good company IMO.

So Vanguard has higher fees and very slow growth? I have co. 401k at work with them. I've been putting in 22% pre-tax. My money is invested in a Roth. About 5400. It's only climbed about 225 since early November. Is that too slow?

I wouldn't know which one of the HUNDREDS of funds your invested in.....And they have some of the lowest, if not the lowest, fees in the business. I'm not a salesman and aren't getting a commission. What is the 10year rate of return for whatever fund you invested in?

Mere conjecture, but if you are in a high risk global emerging market kinda fund then you will see some deep lows and sooner or later some high gains. All depends....

I have been in Windsor II and Wellington for over 15 years. IIRC my returns are 7/8% historically.

That's not a long enough period of time.

My Vanguard Roth IRA holdings are S&P500 Admiral, Total International Admiral, and Wellesly at a roughly even distribution between the three and I'm showing about an 11% rate of return over the last five years.

I chose the distribution that I did to put a wide net over the market, but given the amount of money I'm shoveling towards my mortgage I'm going to start angling my stock holdings towards greater risk to balance it out.

The money in your Roth and 401k accounts are invested into funds - bonds, stocks, CDs - you probably have 12-15 to chose from with your employer's 401k and if you open your own account with a firm like Vanguard you will have 100's of choices...this is what you need to find out.

As for Ric Edelman, I've heard his radio show a couple times, but never really did any research to find out if he was a credible financial advisor or a salesperson.

A return of $225 on $5400 in less than 2 months is pretty impressive (who wouldn't take a 4% return in less than 2 mos), but without knowing the entire picture no one can say for sure. Take your statement and research it until you understand each investment it is in and what fees you are paying. I am guessing you're in a mix of stocks and bonds with the ratio being based on your age.
