Is there anyone on this board with oil extractor in DC-VA-MD area I can borrow to get an oil sample.

I am on my first redline 5w30 fill and 7k miles into it with one track event on it.

Have another event in 2 weeks at VIR and wanted to send sample to see if I need to change oil before the next event.

Thanks!

Are you sure you want to use an oil extractor to get a sample? Once the oil hits the extractor, it'll get majorly contaminated by whatever was in this extractor before. I doubt people spotlessly clean their extractor after every oil change. :)

A sample pump would be the proper tool to use, with a fresh piece of hose, of course.

Snake a piece of aquarium air line down the dipstick tube, and put your finger over the end. Repeat until your sample bottle is filled. YMMV.

You could also attach that rubber hand pump from a turkey baster to the end of your tube, to help the oil advance a bit more up the tube.

now that would take some serious time :-)

Go to (said like the virgin in pajamas said "Taco-Belle" in Demolition Man) "The Home Depot" and buy $2.95 worth of poly tubing. Bevel cut the end so it cannot stick fast to the bottom of the pan. Insert until you are in further than the length of the dipstick.

Start sucking. Cap with thumb between breaths. It's 25' long ..so there should be more than enough volume for one 4oz sample.

How much oil analysis costs as a fraction of new oil and filter?

I guess it is a wrong question to be asked in a forum where a member would likely replace the 4oz of the sample oil extracted with a fresh one (and would relentlessly agonize over if he had ran out the exact bottle from which he did the last OCI :-)
