Anyone ever replaced an alternator on a Caliber?

Caliber/Compass/Patriot would be the same. Ever since I've had my dismal Jeep Compass I've noticed the engine sounded a little clattery, at first the sound was like a ticking lifter but in the last month or 2 the sound has gotten quite catastrophic. The sound is definitely coming from the alternator and will require either a 60 dollar decoupling pulley replacement or a 160+ dollar alternator replacement if the bearings inside are shot. It looks like getting the dang thing out will be a monster of a job so I'm just looking to see if anyone here has done one and has any advice or condolences to give me

If it's the 4 cyl one. All you need to do is drop the AC compressor and the alt comes out the bottom.
