Anyone else use Nu-finish?

Do any of you guys use Nu-finish polish? I personally like it. I tried some turtle wax polishing compound but was immediately disappointed and went back to Nu-finish.

Any other polishes/waxes you guys recommend?
 
Yes, have used the liquid version for many years. Its a fantastic polish. Really good at bringing back the faded finishes of the old cars i drive. But Nu-Finish has a drawback. White polish residue that exposes any surface scratches. More noticeable if your paint is dark. Don't get it on your rubber or trim! Will chalk it for a year before it fades away. So I save Nu-Finish for lighter color cars or faded paint jobs, use the new turtlewax Ice for darker cars. Ice leaves no white residue and hides scratches really well. But Ice has a drawback also. Its a struggle to apply compared to Nu-finish which goes on easy, comes off easy in any condition. Must be no moisture, no sun to apply Ice or it doesn't come out right.

Nu-Finish is also good for fiberglass, polish the shower tub with it once in a while.
 
I've used the Nu-finish for a couple years now. I'm pretty good at keeping the fluid away from cracks, the white residue can be a pain. The shine is always great tho. I like that I can apply it in sunshine!

I'm considering using a spray wax on top of the Nu-finish, what are your thoughts on that?
 
About 1/3 of my Jeep is vinyl trim. Too hard to keep it off the vinyl trim and its a mess if you get it on it. But good stuff otherwise. I Use ICE for the Jeep.

I like ICE's scratch hiding ability and rubber/vinyl friendliness but find the buffing a struggle. What are the best conditions for application?
 
As far as a topper on NF, I'd recommend Duragloss Aquawax. It's actually a spray sealant for around $10. Cons: hard to find at local stores. Carquest and Federated are supposed to carry it and maybe able to order it without shipping charges. Also available on Amazon or flat rate $5 shipping on www.duragloss.com .

Duragloss #101 is very similiar to NF except it doesn't stain trim or fill cracks and scratches in with white residue. Around $10.

NAPA cam also order it for yoy with store delivery and sometimes but rarely AUTO GEEK has free shipping, got my AG 105 and 601 that way.

Advanced Auto Parts sells it, going to buy a bottle and try it out. Interesting product description...

"This heavy-duty liquid wax was originally developed for use by electric power companies for protection against high-voltage power failure, fires and explosions."

Maybe it will deter a lightning strike!

Yes, ex-NuFinish user here as well. I got very tired of the stained trim. I now use the sealant Duragloss 501 and follow it the next day with the wax Collinite 845. Couldn't be happier and this combo lasts longer as well.

I always apply Collonite 845 in the shade, some people do say it's just fine applying it in the Sun, but I'v had mixed results, 845 needs to go on super thin, and it seems hard (for me) to apply a thin coat in the sun on a hot surface. 845 is an awesome wax/sealant, and if you like Nu-Finish, you'll love 845, it's a MUCH better product.

At the risk of topic drift, what do you mean by "Its actually a spray sealant" ? Aren't most of these spray "waxes" some kind of synthetic whatnot? Do you mean by that that its more durable than other spray waxes? If so, what are we talking about in terms of length of service?

I'm not knocking the product. I use it myself. It gives the car a kind of garish, plasticky, bartop type shine. I just love it.

Heck, I still use the maroon bottle Meguiar's cleaner/wax. It kept my 89 Accord's paint nice for 23 years. I waxed the Mazda with it nearly a year ago and it still beads water nicely. To be fair, though, I park in a garage at work and at home.

I use Menzerna compounds/polishes and their Power Lock polymer sealant. You can top that with whatever wax you want, the stuff I do gets abused daily so I prefer MPL as it holds up better. I do not top it as I have no need to.

I use both a FLex rotary PE14 and VRG 3401. Menzerna Fast Gloss 400 has become my favorite agressive compound. Powerfinish works good as a moderate one step polish, SF4000 or SF4500 finishes nicely.

They are a little pricier but not terrible.
