Recently my spouse noticed I do something creepy at night while sleeping.
I'll often fall asleep, but my eyes will be wide open, and looking straight ahead.

I've done this often since I was a kid. But back then, at least I'd roll my eyes back (as if that's LESS creepy).

Anyone heard of this before? I was hoping I'd grow out of it, but it seems like it's not leaving me.
Last night for the first time I tried sleeping with tape on my eye lids. Today my eyes feel better than usual, and vision is slightly clearer.

I've heard of it. I guess your eyes would be pretty dry in the morning! The eyelid is the thinnest skin on the body, I would check with Doctor about the risks of using tape.

We saw my daughter doing this a couple of times when she was young and some of her friends also saw it during sleepovers.
Doesn't seem like she did it consistently and I really don't know if it still happens for her.

My brother has this issue and has since he was a kid. (used to freak us out)

He does find his eyes are dry when he gets up. He uses eye drops that are quite viscous and make his vision blurry when he puts them in. (Over the counter)
That way it leaves a protective film over his eyes when he sleeps to help minimize the dryness. His neurologist advised him to use a darkness mask when he sleeps that as a good elastic on it applying enough pressure to the lids to keep them closed as much as possible but not enough to limit circulation to the face.

You are at higher risk of scratching your corneas with this condition so I would get a darkness mask at the very least. Scratched corneas are not fun.
First hand experience with those myself when I got something in my eye and I was trying to get it out.

I guess you must be getting some darn good sleep if you can do it without having to close your eyes. Total blank out.

My cousin's Hubby physically can't close one eyelid...lasting damage from a forcep...incident.... when he was born...
... somehow pulled the skin off that part of his newborn face.

so he literally sleeps with one eye open.

Has a roommate in college that slept with his eyes open. Not wide open. Just halfway.
