Just gave myself a freshening up and wondered a couple things. How much have I saved over the past 35 years by cutting my own and if anyone else does it too. Started with a cheap Wahl set with combs and have "graduated" up to a Wahl 5-Star Magic Clip cordless. It cuts very well and precisely. If I make a conservative guess, cutting/trimming every two-four weeks @ say $15 a cut, I suppose that would be in the neighborhood of $12-13K. That buys a lot of oil 😁.

Oh God, last time I tried ~2010, I ended up with basically a bowl cut. Now I have a barber I've been going to ~10 years at $60/cut/3-4weeks (he charges me way less but good vendor-client relationships are important.)

I have been doing it myself every month since the covid shutdown. I use thinning scissors and put a #5 clipper on the professional style cutter.. Hard to mess it up that way. I face a hand held mirror with my back to the big bathroom mirror to shape the back. That's the hardest part. I have gotten pretty good at it.

$15 is cheap. I tried cutting mine during covid. I'm sure that the front and sides looked ok, the rear.... not so much.

I bought a Wahl trimmer set with about a dozen guides including ear ones just before Covid and have been doing it since. Saves me $15 to $20 each time, so it's already paid for itself a dozen times over. I always keep my hair short and have no interest in styling it, so an even all around cut is perfect for me. My wife does my line in the back and cleans up a couple other places that need it.

If I tried to cut my own hair, I'd probably end up cutting off my head, and it wouldn't be a clean cut.

There's a lady who owns a salon fairly close to me. She charges $8 for haircuts. I always give her a twenty, as she serves a community that can't always afford to go to Sport Clips or other more specialized barbers charging 5x or more.

20+ years.. My renter left a set when they left so I thought I'd try it. Never went back to a barber. That corded Wahl lasted 10+ years till it fell and broke. Have a cordless Wahl I've changed the battery in 3 times. I cut mine, oldest son and even my dad's and uncles a time or two.

just gave myself a buzz and beard trim last night been doing this since 2006. Call it what it is I am livid when my wife gives in and gets the kid a haircut @ $19 plus tip. I give him the old basic training induction buzz.
