Anyone cut their own hair?

Oh God, last time I tried ~2010, I ended up with basically a bowl cut. Now I have a barber I've been going to ~10 years at $60/cut/3-4weeks (he charges me way less but good vendor-client relationships are important.)

That brought back a childhood memory. I had some neighbors growing up with six kids. Three boys, and three girls. They all literally got bowl haircuts, in fact they all had a specific plastic bowl with their names written on them. Mom would put the bowl on their head, snip around the perimeter, and they were stylin' for a couple of weeks.

Just gave myself a freshening up and wondered a couple things. How much have I saved over the past 35 years by cutting my own and if anyone else does it too. Started with a cheap Wahl set with combs and have "graduated" up to a Wahl 5-Star Magic Clip cordless. It cuts very well and precisely. If I make a conservative guess, cutting/trimming every two-four weeks @ say $15 a cut, I suppose that would be in the neighborhood of $12-13K. That buys a lot of oil 😁.
I imagine once you get past the trial and error/learning curve...it could be OK.

for years I did Gillette Fusion 5's. Got tired of the expense and joined dollar shave club. Made it easier and cheaper and never ran out of razors. About 4 years ago, I decided to go electric. My wife got tired of playing nurse every time I would cut the back of my head. It is a trick shaving your face and head with a real razor. Since going electric, I have never looked back. It is easy every night before a shower with a little splash of Lectric shave and no more blood!

Just the reminder that I needed. Getting the Flobee and other tools out shortly. Have been DIY haircutting/styling wife’s hair and mine since about 1993. Saved lots of money that way and the quality is superb. Retired early….coincidence?

Haven’t been to a barber in 35+ years. Attachment #4 in the winter and #3 in the summer. I began after college trying to save money. Now I just do it for convenience.

My son has been cutting my hair for years. He learned the craft when he was a sailor on a small warship during a long deployment. Crew needed a barber and he volunteered.

A couple times during covid, just buzz the whole thing with a #2. The back of my neck is a bit of hairy, so it needs a precise line shaved in, which is hard to do for me at least.
Our local barber is cheap and good, but doesn't take appointments over the phone, so I have to make sure I'm in line first in the morning, or you end up coming back later, or waiting for a few cuts.

I'm too ugly to get away with a home cut. I have a great barber and like supporting a small business. Its not cheap though.

Many years ago before I was married I got hammered drunk and cut my own hair. I actually did a great job and gave myself a nice fade. I tried to reproduce it many times (both drunk and sober) with no luck.
