Anyone cach the Yanks vs. Red Sox series?

Holy cow! I was glued to the television set last night while watching the final game of the 3 game series between the Yankees and Red Sox. What an amazing game (especially if you're a Yanks fan

). The game went 13 innings and almost each of those 13 innings were packed with incredible plays or hits and anxiety.

It really is a shame there had to be a loser at all as both teams played their hearts out. It was more like October baseball than July, pre-All-Star break ball.

Being a life long Yankees fan I know enough not to think this game, or series, will mean the Sox won't be around to hound us come playoff time. The Sox are simply too good a team to stay down very long. But I must admit, sweeping the 3 game series was a bit of revenge for the pounding they gave us at the start of the season.

If last nights game was any indication of what we can expect come Sept./ October then baseball fans everywhere are in for a treat.

I love to watch the yankees get beat. Too bad that didn't happen. That is a great rivalry but watching AL baseball reminds me of watching girls softball. The DH ruins the game.

I know that yanks/sox get all the press and every baseball writer likes to fawn all over the yanks but I believe the Cubs/Cardinals rivalry is even better than sox/yanks.

I'm not a Yankees fan by any stretch and love to see them loose. Not really because they are the yankees but every single player on that team is overrated with the exception of A Rod.

Jeter is not even the best SS in the division and not in the top 5 currently in baseball yet nobody will shut up about this guy. Perfect example of the media turing a slightly above average player into a star. Pretty much the same applies to every position in the field.

Then again the Yankees have Joe Torre (at least for now) and he is a master at winning with a overrated team.

on the Jeter comment. If you saw last nights game you would have seen why he is held in such high regard. I disagree with you that he is overrated in the skills category but that can be debated. There is, however, more to the game than the purely physical aspect and it is there that Jeter has shown to be in a league where very few can follow.

I don't really know much at all about the Cards/Cubs rivalry other than what I've read in papers and seen on ESPN. I'm sure it makes for very exciting baseball.

It's OK to hate the Yankees. After all, most people either love em' or despise them. You rarely find someone who is ambivalent when it comes to the Yankees. Perfectly understandable when you consider the success the've had over the years, the teams they've sent packing, the media coverage (a result of their unprecedented success), the financial rewards their large market and success has enabled them to enjoy and last but not least, the willingness of their owner to do what it takes to keep his team competitive year after year. If I hadn't grown up pretending to be Mickey Mantle or Craig Nettles but instead became a Mets fan like my brother and sister, I would probably hate the Yanks too.

Eljefino.....your team is world class and like I said, I know you guys will be in the thick of it come Sept/Oct. Actually, I hope to see you guys there so we can have some more of this incredible baseball no matter who wins. Of course, I'll be there, with my 8 y/o son for at least a few playoff games cheering on the Yanks!

Like the yanks sent the two youngest teams in the NL packing? The diamondbacks and marlins? Sent them away with world series rings!

I know you don't know me but I assure you I understand the non-physical part of the game. You are a blind jeter fan if you believe what you said. He does very little for the yanks and right now because of him the best SS on YOUR team is at 3rd base. The yankees couldn't get a first round pick for Jeter in a trade if the added money to the deal. Why were they going after Nomar last year? Probably proposed Jeter for Nomar and Boston nearly puked at the mere thought. If jeter played anywhere besides NY he would never have made an all star team.

Just so ya know the yanks only get the press they do because they are the trendy New York team and they get alot of bandwagon fans. They didn't earn it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not to offend but the yankess would be about the 6 or 7th best team in the NL.

I know you think people are jealous of the yanks but that is not true. Most people just hate them. **** I hate the yankees. I'm sure you are a "real" fan but I just can't take anyone serious about baseball that is proud to be a yankee fan. If you were ashamed about how the yanks try to buy a winner every year and come up short a lot of the time since 1970 I might take you serious. I guess as long as you think the yanks "earn" their way we are just on a different page.

I am a Sox fan.......One thing that consistent about the Sox is don't get to excited with them.

Now the Patriots! How can you get any better than that!

I am not much of a baseball fan, but being born and raised in Boston you never lose the allegiance.

Stab.....way way too much there for me to respond to it all. Besides, it wouldn't do much good anyway as I think you've proved my point that you either love em', or despise them. You've made your position crystal clear and that is fine.

In my original post all I asked was if anyone saw the series or the last game of that series and how it was incredibly exciting baseball. You're the one that went off on the rant about Jeter and the Yanks...for whatever reason.

Lastly, it may surprise you to know that I agree....A-Rod IS the best shortstop on the team. Anyone who doesn't know that is clueless. The fact that he's continued that level of play at 3rd base is remarkable. Maybe the Yanks people knew Jeter couldn't play third and A-Rod would be able to handle it. I personally don't think Jeter would be very good at third.....he's better moving way to the left, deep into the hole rather than hard diving smashes. Whatever the reasons A-Rod is handling it with nary a mis-step and the result is Jeter and A-Rod covering that side of the infield. Not too shaby!

I hope you caught some of the Yanks / Mets game last night. I'm sure that would have put a smile on your face.

Caught that one and loved the look on Posada's face when Franco got the third called strike on him.

I could almost hear Posada when he started to argue with the umpire "you do know i play for the yankees and we ALWAYS get the close calls".

I think that was the first time in several years when a questionable call went AGAINST the yankees. I don't guess the home plate umpire got the memo to always side with the yanks.


On a general note I really love baseball. The game is gaining strenth everyday and will soon give the NFL a run for it's money. The quality and parody around MLB is better than it has beed in 25 years.

I just wished the AL didn't have the DH.

Yep, the Mets are taking it to the Yanks big time. I wasn't able to watch Saturday's game so I didn't see the called third strike but I did remember to bring my pocket sized, transistor radio to listen while at a mid-day BBQ. Still, if the pitch was close enough to go either way you've got to be swinging with two strikes. Posada's fault, not the ump.

I knew the game was lost when Kurtze came in and promptly walked two batters and beened a third. He single handidly lost the game.

My brother made sure to call me last night to needle me a bit...he is a huge Mets fan and we have fun with eachother dishing out the jabs.

Another point of agreement...I too would prefer pitchers be required to bat. Not only does it force pitchers to be more complete ball players but it also forces mananagers to be more artful in their strategy.

Amkeer.....I'm a huge hockey fan. Grew up playing hockey on local ponds and outdoor rinks with plywood boards. Tons and tons of fun! My son, entering his third season of organized hockey at 8 years old, is shaping up to be quite a goaltender. At 8, he already skates almost as well as I ever did! It is very satisfying and enjoyable to watch him fall in love with the game. BTW.....I'm a true blue NY Rangers fan. Have been since the first time I heard chants of EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE! Given the Rangers lack of post season success and their irresponsible spending on over the hill has beens it has been a very frustrating 10 years. I really hope they wake up and realize the potential they have in the Hartford team and in their draft picks.

Living in NJ I could have become a NJ Devils fan back when they moved in. I would have enjoyed a lot more post season (and regular season) success but my heart is and always will be with the Broadway Blue Shirts.
