Anybody using 5w20 in 1MZ-FE?

I found a TSB where Toyota back spec'd the 1MZ-FE in my 2002 Avalon to 5w20 and I am interested in running 5w20 in it. I have Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5w30 in it and it is smooooooth.

Anyone run a 5w20 in their 1MZ-FE?

Probably wont hurt anything, if you do lots of short trips that could warrant a 5w20, other than that continuing with 5w30 is probably what I would do.

I have been running Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 in my '03 Sienna for around three years. I have run Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5w20 in previous oil changes. I want to try Quaker State Ultimate Durability 0w20, but have four more jugs of Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 in the stash, so that will go in first. Yes I do sometimes. Other times I use Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30, depending on what I get on sale. The consumption seems a bit more on the 5W-20 but nothing extreme.

Try out a few different brands. See if anything changes. Personally I'd leave well enough alone........actually no I wouldn't. If you can find 5w-20 ultra that'd be my first choice but the Toyota syn 0w-20 is a whole new animal,and formulated for your engine. Maybe try it out too.

I like Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5W30 in my 1MZ-FR as well('01 RX-300).
And I am aware of one of our members here at BITOG who is currently using Quaker State Ultimate Durability 0W20(not the 5W20 in question) in their own 1MZ-FE(RX-300) with good success thus far.

I like Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5W30 in my 1MZ-FR as well('01 RX-300).
And I am aware of one of our members here at BITOG who is currently using Quaker State Ultimate Durability 0W20(not the 5W20 in question) in their own 1MZ-FE(RX-300) with good success thus far.


Yup, I've ran 0W-20 in my RX for one OCI of around 4k miles. The oil did very well, and the engine did not consume any measurable amount of oil. Ran butter smooth as always.

Didn't keep track of mpg, as I had nothing to compare it to since my commute had changed.
