Anybody getting tired of South Main Auto?

I can characterize every Car Wizard video as follows: "Here's a car that's barely running, thanks to years of neglect from a previous owner and incompetent service from his various hack mechanics. Only I the all-knowing Car Wizard can properly diagnose and repair it". Then he'll do so - off camera of course - and send it on its merry way.
I dunno, I kinda like the Car Wizard. He can come across as arrogant but I interpret it as weird Kansas white guy. I've known several people from the area who all have a similar demeanor and it's not arrogance but just normal communication for the locale.

For the ones who want to feign offense: sorry, not sorry -- stereotypes exist for a reason and I fully acknowledge I fit some stereotype, too.

I've watched a lot of different YT automotive repair videos/channels over the years and I have not found one I enjoy more than SMA. Eric O knows how to explain what he's doing (just enough), be real about it and be entertaining at the same time. Ivan from Pine Hollow is pretty amazing as well. I used to enjoy Watch Wes Work, but he rarely posts anymore and Rainman Ray got a bit too busy IMO.

I've never seen Car Wizard actually go though and diag or repair anything.
Eric from SMA is for DIY guys.
Car wizard is a cool fact and a story guy for consumers.
Just different target markets.

Yeah, Car Wizard is pretty much a "this is what we found, this is what we did to fix it" kind of channel. The in-between is lacking.

Like you said, different target audience.

Dealing with out of town customers is a nightmare. Can you imagine someone breathing down your neck about a part thats out of stock and them complaining about having to pay for hotel and being unable to leave?
I'd laugh at 'em and tell them they're free to come get their car !

and to me it's incredibly obvious he does his best to keep it PG
He definitely does and probably has to do some edits plenty of time. He still slips in innuendos all the time with a smirk on his face. His wife is more camera-friendly too and I think they're eating that up for a segment of male viewers. Their YT channel brings in thousands of dollars each month.

I don't watch a lot of his stuff but I was trying to remember of the ones I did watch, I can't recall ever seeing a tool in his hands.

Good point, Car Wizard mostly rants. Maybe I like him because I'm good at ranting, too.

However I do feel many of his rants are because he does not enjoy explaining to customers that a repair will be hundreds or thousands when a slightly simpler design would have maybe never even failed in the first place. I can sympathize with that because I too hate having that conversation

Well, at least there's still Scotty Kilmer

I'm glad he has been pretty much chased away on here.

Try Dave's Auto YouTube in Utah. Both an auto repair and engine machine shop. He is borderline arrogant. But I would guess he knows his stuff and if you can afford him doing the work, then it will be done right.

Original post 2019.. does this still apply? I watch him since all Eric's tend to be the same, my wife tells me that based on the videos anyways.

I like SMA. He is good at electrical diagnosis and I like watching the rust videos. I used to obsess over Vice Grip Garage. Just haven't spent the time watching lately. But DB is my kinda guy and more my level of technical expertise.

Also liked to watch letsdig18. That fella is a good operator!

It really is amazing to watch these creators work. I tried it once. Made a video of me clearing some trees with my mini excavator. I sound and look like an idiot. Needless to say, I never posted anything on YT.

Dont Knock on Scotty Kilmer he has a great channel and he just came up with a cool hack! Here is how you solve all of your cars problems :
Here's the thing. You said "a Charizard is a dragon." Is it in the same family? Yes. No one's arguing that. As someone who is a Dragon type Gym Leader, I am telling you, specifically, in all of Kanto, no one calls Charizards dragons. If you want to be "specific" like you said, then you shouldn't either. They're not the same thing. If you're saying "dragon egg group" you're referring to the entirebreeding group, which includes things from Charmander to Magikarp to Goomy. So your reasoning for calling a Charizard a dragon is because random people "call the giant lizards dragons?" Let's get Mega Gyarados and Aerodactyl in there, then, too. Also, calling someone an Indigo E4 or Kanto E4, It's not one or the other, that's not how the Indigo League works. They're both. A Charizard is a Charizard and a member of the dragon family. But that's not what you said. You said a Charizard is a dragon, which is not true unless you're okay with calling all members of the dragon family dragons, which means you'd call Magikarp, Goomy, and Alolan Exeggutor dragons, too. Which you said you don't. It's okay to just admit you're talking about Mega Charizard X, you know?

ANY WAY THIS IS SCOTTY KILMER LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE!

I will tell you I love SMA. The guy can troubleshoot. I spend a good portion of my life troubleshooting problems on submarines and Eric O certainly has a very good method for getting to the bottom of a problem. I would agree he does his best to to keep it PG and I laugh at that because I could do a better job at that.

This is my thought. So many guys try with crappy cell phone video, terrible lighting, obnoxious background noise.

To do it well means video making and editing becomes 50% of your job....although I think at times Eric O could edit a bit more.

Watch Wes Work once kinda mentioned how much goes into the video side and he said uploading takes forever-- I have no idea if this is because he's rural or is true for everyone?

I have NO idea how WWW cranks out so much content, repairs everything he does, sources new tools and has a young family. He must sleep a few hours a day.

Before my rural area got fiber optic internet it would take 2 or 3 hours to upload a 4 minute video to my YouTube channel. I would start the download just before I went to bed and it would upload while I slept. Now with highspeed internet the video is finished uploading before I can type out the video description and answer all of YouTube's silly questions.

As much as I enjoy SMA, I also find Sarah-N-Tuned fascinating. She's a retired Air Force Tech who seems to do really detailed restoration work, as well as resto-mods that can pass as factory. She's sometimes a bit ditzy, but the design and quality of her work is excellent. Very dry sense of humor and funny.

There is a backstory to Sarah-N-Tuned.
