Amsoil is promoting that you can run their oil along with their oil filter in your car for 25,000 mile. Is anybody actually doing this. what has been your experience? How does your car run all these miles on the same oil?

Do they sell Amsoil oil and filters in stores or can you only buy them on line?

One of the Amsoil distributors in my town (the owner of the shop) has a Dodge van he apparently does bigtime OCI like that on. He says the engine is clean as can be inside and doesnt burn or consume any oil. I have not seen any proof, but it still amazes me to hear that people actually trust to try that.

Lots of info on here... Please use the search and look back through old threads.

Many have done well-extended OCIs using Amsoil. It is best practice to justify your extension with UOA, particularly if there is no bypass filter, or if a lot of maintenance history is unknown...

Lots of people run extended drains. Though it seems to be primarily the heavy truck guys that get "right into it".

In order to do it correctly, you use UOA's to monitor the oil's health, and thus figure out the maximum SAFE OCI for your particular vehicle.

Not every vehicle can SAFELY run AMSOIL to 25K. That is why one must use the method above if they want to ensure they are not damaging their engine.

Not exactly:
(1) Engines operating under modified conditions are excluded from extended drain recommendations. Examples include the use of performance computer chips; non-OEM approved exhaust, fuel or air induction systems; and the use of fuels other than those recommended for normal operation by the manufacturer.

(2) Mechanically sound engines are in good working condition and do not, for example, leak oil or consume excessive amounts, are not worn out, do not overheat, do not leak anti-freeze and have properly working emission control systems. AMSOIL recommends repairing malfunctioning engines prior to the installation of AMSOIL synthetic oils.

(3) Personal vehicles frequently traveling greater than 10 miles (16km) at a time and not operating under severe service.

Amsoil is blended to be a very long life oil. Most of the contaminants in a tight engine are from breakdown of the oil itself, and Amsoil is effective at resisting this. But, don't count on the long mileage without periodic oil analysis. Here is one test where the Amsoil only lived for 14,000 miles (ONLY 14k?...that ain't bad). http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/stories/amsoil.html

12 K is a nice rounded number to use in my experience. 15K is the limit I would use to keep Amsoils warranty intact. Don't forget the one year limit on the OCI. Use the Eao full flow oil filter for the same amount of miles.

You can in Canada, that's for sure. Canadian Tire carries it.

M1 EP.......

My last OCI was over 30,000 miles, using Amsoil SSO/TSO 0W-30. I'm using an Amsoil bypass filter setup to remove particulates, but the new EABP filters don't help keep the TBN high. Here is my last UOA.

As you can see, I first went with a 12,691 mile OCI, extended it to a 24,261 mile UOA then to a 30,726 mile OCI. Each time I took a UOA that showed I had plenty of life left in the oil and the viscosity stayed within grade.

Best to read through this:

As the others have stated, it's not a dump the oil in and forget it situation. Depends on many factors, from the oil choice to climate, to engine, to driving style.

That said there have been a small, but growing number of UOA's in the 20K-30K range posted over the years.

There are some retail outfits that sell Amsoil, but contact a site sponsor first. Shipping a case of oil costs about $10.

I have used SSO and ASM oils from Amsoil and do mostly highway driving and there is no way that they would stand up to that time frame in my engine... I have UOA's to prove it. But I think they make a darn good oil and it performs very well on my UOA's for the time I have it in use. For the amount of time I use it in my engine it works out to be the same cost as an off-the-shelf semi-synth. But I get: less time having to crawl under the truck, and better protection IMO.

Some Napa's here in Texas carry Amsoil, but you usually have to to go online to get it. I run Amsoil in my Duramax and do 20-25k mile runs depending on what the UOA says, which I do every about every 7k miles. I also run a bypass filtration set up. My last run went 24.5k and I changed due to a couple of numbers I didn't like, though the oil was more than good for continued use. It just had more silica than I was comfortable with. Take into account though that my truck sees a lot of heavy towing and gets about 25k a year put on her. I think the point with the 25k claim is that the oil wil easily last that long with out breakdown, sludging, etc......but if the oil gets dirty from heavy or severe use, no oil can fix itself that way. Good filtration can help, but only to a point.

Belle Tire in Novi MI, has a huge permanent sign in their service area. "Amsoil 15,000 mile oil change, $99, up to 5 quarts, additional quarts $10".

Now just six months ago the sign said the same but the milage OCI was 25,000 miles and cost $79.

Just to have fun I questioned them and they said that it's guaranteed for 25,000 miles no problem. Filter will be fine for the OCI. It will save you money.

I prefer to just have a couple of PP changes in the same OCI with a new filter. Just seems more reasonable.

My Volvo takes 6 quarts. The Oil change would have cost 99 plus 10 plus tax plus disposal fee. You are looking at a $115 oil change. NO thanks.
