As strange as it sounds, it's the truth. I've been diagnosed with very mild bipolarmania when I was young and have since been diagnosed with minor depression (haven't got the mania in decades) and general anxiety disorder. Prozac made my go insane - messed me up bigtime, so I refuse to take medication.

I can sympathize sprintman. Talk to your doctor and possibly talk with a therapist who specializes in depression. Engage in activities that make you happy. Try and engage with mates as much as possible. Don't isolate yourself. Whatever you do, don't pick up the bottle. Trust me. I did. Worst mistake of my life.

Hang in there mate.

Sad? Yeah, I guess you could call it that. I've gotten used to it over the years and found others who can relate, so I don't feel alone with it and I have enough enjoyable moments to keep me going. I've realized that everything I've ever been upset over wasn't worth being upset about (not to say that I'm actually in control of myself yet).

I use Krazy Glue for deep cuts. It might not be the best thing in the long run, and it's probably somewhat toxic, but it sure is the easiest and it gets me through. Good analogy for my life!

So I'm not exactly qualified to give any advice on life. But I can say this: if it comes down to it, you'll feel way better the next day, and the next couple of weeks, if you just get really drunk and high instead of getting drunk and downing a bunch of random medication!

Just because C/A glue has medical uses it does not mean that you yourself should use C/A glue on any wounds. The risk of infection is huge if you apply C/A glue.

By the way, you really shouldn't be cutting yourself.

My father died in 07, my friends' parents are dying as well. Occasionally one of the friends will die. Seems that lately most of my social life is attending wakes and funerals. I am still mourning I guess. I have suffered from depression before. I can only say that you should seek counsel, professional or friendly, what ever is available or works best for you. Don't put it off, depression is such that if it deepens, you will not have the will to seek help. At least I didn't.

I wrote this one night for a woman in the adjacent hotel room who was crying in despair for hours. Slipped it under her door after she declined my offer of help. She passed a thank you note under my door the next morning and said it helped. Hope it helps you.

The Little Things

The best things in life are the little things
That surround us every day,
The glow of the dawn, the song of the birds,
The laughter of children at play.

With all of man's powers he can't match the flowers,
Their fragrance afloat on a breeze.
Butterfly wings are such beautiful things
Why it even feels good just to sneeze!

Sometimes it seems we get lost in our schemes
And feel crushed by life's arrows and slings.
But all of our sorrows will pass with tomorrows
If we just tune in life's little things.

Wow Tom. Very inspiring. Thanks for the post. Get well Sprintman. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Deal with manic D everyday of my life and there are little tidbits that get me through. Never think that you are alone. May God see you through this. Prayer list updated.

I appeal to you again to talk to someone. Having been there before I want you to realize how important it is to seek help in ANY MANNER YOU SEE FIT. There's much cheap talk on this thread but, having been there, I'm speaking to you directly.....please speak to someone locally about your feelings. You will be so glad you did, please believe me on this.

Also to add to RTexasF's point... It's not a sign of weakness and in no way are "You" defective or have a disability. It's more common than you think and it's probablly one of the most Not-Talked about subjects because society generally labels an illnesses because it has some sort of physical symptom, and this one generally does not.

You are a good person who just needs some help, whether that be spiritual, medication, counseling or something else... Talk to someone and you will not only feel better but will get what you need.

I have been where you are, and worse than where you are... I tried to take my own life a few times... I have come a long way through prayer, family and medication.

You need to find what works for you, and you are on the right track. THERE IS HOPE, because I'm still here!

Amen to what StevieC said. You have friends here that care about you even though we have not met face to face. That doesn't matter, we are your friends and only wish the best for you. Please follow the advice from those of us that have been there before. Simple discussion helps more than you can imagine and certain medications help immensely. Don't turn your back on yourself......reach out and ask for assistance. I will pray for you. Apparently someone prayed for me when I needed help so badly because I received it. We are tens of thousands of miles away yet we are connected....do you feel it? We are all trying to offer strength across the miles....Close your eyes and accept it.

I have general anxiety disorder as well. I don't have depression but I do go through phases of depression.

Exercise can help along with medication. Hang in there sprintman. Life does suck at times.

Tom that was very good.

Sprintman, my family from my moms side is extremely succeptable to depression and anxiety dissorders. Extremely ecletcic , creative and smart but it is common for that side of me to fall into ruts and find it hard to get out. Medication and counseling and finding a positive activity for yourself are all good ways of dealing with this. I have no shame in stating that I maintain a small dose of medication to prevent myself from falling into this rut when life does throw a curve and messes it up.
Find you a good campassionate physician or counselor to help you through this time. Some people can deal with it spiritually but for many of us it is a chemical imbalance or a lack of seratonin that allows us to fully enjoy the positivesin life. At this point in your life with the factors involved I encourage you to seek professional help. This is the 21st century and any one who attaches a stigma to seeking help is not worth considering a friend. Depression is real.

Best wishes.
Bryan.

Buster, We have Pmed about this issue and it doesn't surprise me that so many of the intelligent folks here have been through this.

Sprintman, Hang in there buddy and take the good advice given we all care.

Depression is as common as lint from the dryer but the vast majority will not even discuss it much less admit it. SPRINTMAN...WE ARE ALL ON YOUR SIDE. Some of us have been there, some have not but all of us wish good for you. You have friends that you are not aware of.

A very touching thread, indeed. I salute those who were free with personal stories.

I have a history of it, have gone through times where I lost thirty pounds in six weeks from how little I was eating, probably alienated everyone I knew, but eventually the tables turn...usually when I find something to get angry about again and I'm too restless to stay in the rut.
