Amsoil claims that their EA15k line of oil filters are at change intervals of 15,000 miles of normal use or 1 year; whichever occurs first. Is this claim true; or is it more like 7k-10k miles?

As an example, quality OE spec filters from Bosch, Hengst and Mann easily run to 18k in the diesel Pathfinder. 18k being the Nissan OCI.

But in the UK we don't have the many different brands and names that you have in the US.

Oil filters made by the OE supplier to manufacturers are well under £10 normally so there is not much of a market for cheap filters, except for those who really think saving £1 is worthwhile.

I still find it strange that the US consumer wants a mileage warranty on an oil filter.

They use the Donaldson SYNTEQ media, which is a dense glass fibre media and has a much greater holding capacity than your traditional paper media. So yes, the filter can certainly go the advertised distance in an application that isn't going to plug it full of sludge, which would spell disaster for any filter.

I think it depends on engine conditions. For example.. people look for a filter like this when they make the switch from dino to synthetics and extended OCI's. In many cases the first few synthetic OCI's will be dirty as the engine cleans up. No way I'd trust 15k on a filter during this phase no matter what they say. Once the engine is cleaned up maybe. I'm running 15k filters now. One car I would be comfortable with using the filter twice, its been on synthetics for over 100k. One is a recent switchover which I would not.

I agree with OVERK1LL and LeakySeals. It should make 15K in the right application, wasn't this a 25K filter some years back, or am I mistaking it with something else?

Actually, the average US consumer has no idea what he wants, other than to have someone TELL him what to use. No one here (other than those of us on BITOG) wants to learn anything about their car, but will complain bitterly that it's a piece of junk when the vehicle fails after years of neglect.

Yes this oil filter was rated for 25k just last year or so. They dropped it down due to "low oil pressure" issues that some Honda and Toyota engines had when using the filter for 25k, i assume.

I've used the Amsoil and M1 oil filter for 15k, used on two different engines and both UOAs came back looking great. No issues with the second engine which ran the filter up to 15k miles. The car (2004 Accord 2.4L) had 200k miles on it.

I currently continue to reuse the oil filter as well, recycling the oil filters from my 2007 Civic EX after 10-12k miles and using the oil filter in a 94 Accord 2.2L for an additional 3-5k miles without issues.

Thank you for all the replies. They are all helpful.

Bigjl, I'm actually not looking for a guarantee. Just curious if the filter will perform as advertised. As I'm sure you are aware from being on here; Americans (generally) are pretty ignorant to all things regarding the oil, filters, and oci about their cars. I'm actually not much different. Something I'd like to change here.

Artem, I've used M1 filters for years. Unfortunately, I didn't know they were good enough to use for 15k. I've always changed them at 5-7k

The K&N is made by the same company that makes the M1 oil filter. It's identical to the M1 oil filter + the welded nut on the end.

I wouldn't hesitate to use it for 15k as well.
