any thoughts on a 2016 Toyota Avalon?

I don't have details yet, but just received a text from a Toyota salesman that he likely is taking in on trade. 11k miles.

I don't have a price or a configuration. I assume the car is a desert Southwest car, likely senior citizen owned- but just an assumption.


Any thoughts on the reliability of a 2016 Avalon?

Salesman just corrected the year- it is a 2016 (not a 2013)- just received the VIN- it is a touring trim level

Wow- salesman just gave a price, $27k USD. Owned by a senior citizen from Florida, left the car in New Mexico because not able to drive back to Florida safely.

Friends father was always a Lincoln man ! he bought his first Avalon around 2013 I believe ?
getting right to the point he never went back to Lincoln and I never heard a single complaint about his Avalons. And in my opinion they were outstanding in comfort and drivability when i was in them .
 
First year of that generation Avalon. I believe it had some updates that needed to be done to the infotainment like updating the radio software. I've got a '15 and had to do that as the stereo would keep freezing. (Free download from Toyota, all you need is a USB memory stick) I've also seen a lot of people complain about the rear sunshade sticking/making noise.

Not sure if you follow this guy, but this is a good review:

We love our '15. It's like a Lexus without the badges. Great motor and transmission.

Also, I'd create a Toyota.com account if you don't have one, pop in the VIN and see what kind of service history it has. Mine got an oil change every 6 months, regardless of miles. It had 30K mile when we bought it. I did a coolant change (replaced upper and lower radiator hoses too), new belt and had one of the TPMS sensors replaced as it would throw a TPMS error when it was really cold. Even with that mileage, expect to have to do some service to avoid issues.
 
dry rot tires? Wonder if they are the originals.
Would imagine the only service perfeorned was oil changes, and Toyota reportdely has a 10k oil change published interval.

Being a touring model, even at 11k miles, I suspect more likely than not the tires are worn out.
 
I'd buy it, but not from that greedy dealer, who likely bought it for $15-17K and is trying make a quick 10 grand. Evidently the prior owner never heard of a car shipping service.
You are assuming that the dealership was telling the truth about the car. Most have no idea about the history, other than it came from the auction.
 
The 2015 we own has been completely trouble free for us. Now at 113,000 miles.
Drives great and plenty of power. Understand they are ending the Avalon and do not know if they are bringing out a new model to replace it.
 
27K for a ten year old Toyota that sold for only around 10K more new?
For another three grand you can have a new Camry, a very spacious and comfortable car that features Toyota's excellent hybrid system.
Remember, this Avalon is a ten year old car and even with low miles will have all of the issues that come with that along with the issues that come with disuse.
You might even be better off were it a regularly used 100K car which would also sell for a whole lot less money.
 
The Avalon is a great comfortable car, but a 2016 is not worth $26K...maybe $21 K with only 11,000 miles. However, they will sell it in no time because there are buyers who want comfort, a bit of luxury, incredible reliability and durability for less than a new vehicle's pricetag.

I would also shy away from any modern car with white paint as it will likely start peeling off in sheets soon. My neighbor had a 2015 Lexus GX with the pearlescent white paint...he wife made him trade it in when the paint started delaminating.
 
I considered one for awhile, but the ES350 is better, and the GX460 is further superior.

Yes, they went to low VOC not long before that and white is the worst.

My Nissans are white and peeled some on the drip rails and pillars. I was good about catching it early and touching up over it. Fortunately no further issues for me.

Honda seems to be the worst. I see lots of Honda white cars with half their paint missing.
 
Awesome car. My aunt had a 2016 Avalon XLE she bought new, I put thousands of miles on it. She sold it in 2023 at about 85k trouble free miles.

It’s the reason I bought my 2014 Lexus ES350 last year at 90k miles for $17k. I will say the ES350 is absolutely the better deal. Better leather seat material, better suspension, and better looks IMO. Last year when I was shopping the Avalons too, they were going for about $16k for the same miles and year. At 108k miles now and 30-31 mpg mostly highway. Upper 20’s with some city.
