I purchased a Richmond Powertrax no-slip posi for my 2000 model (non-posi) S10. Richmond instructions state I had to use only the Richmond 75w-140w synthetic diff fluid. I can find different brands of 75w-140w synthetic diff fluid so much cheaper at any auto parts stores, plus I would not have to pay $29 a quart, plus $18 in shipping and wait a week. Are they forcing you to buy only their fluid or would it be acceptable to use any 75w-140w synthetic diff fluid?

I am not familiar with their posi but after paying that much for it I would stick to the recommendations. At least it is not as high as the purple juice GMC says to use in their regular differentials.

http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/svo.aspx ???? dunno since they don't state a spec

It's shady that they're requiring use of their fluid rather than picking a spec or set of specs and turning you loose on the world while requiring you to provide proof of fluid use for any warranty type claims. I thought requiring a specific brand of fluid was frowned upon (hence why OEM can't do it for oil).

Summit's site says Richmond's stuff is a GL-6 gear oil, too so the Amsoil stuff would seemingly not be up to snuff.

Torco's dino and synthetic gear oils still meet/exceed the old, obsolete, GL-6 specs.

The dino stuff is reasonable, but the synthetic is way up there in price, albeit nowhere near as over the top exorbitant as the Richmond stuff (which I believe is just re-labeled Torco ANYWAY!!

Amazing....
Back in 2006, my local speed shops sold Richmond Gear oil for $15 per quart, and I couldn't determine if GL-6 oil would be okay in a GL-5 application, so I spend more money on Valvoline synthetic GL-5 gear oil.

Richmond would not warranty the powertrax posi unless I used their 75w-140w gear lube, so I just ordered 2 quarts. Thanks everyone for your comments!

I STILL would have pressed them to reveal WHO makes their stuff for them, and even thrown out the name Torco since they are the ONLY other company which still claims GL-6 specs.
