Any reason to hoard grease?

With all that's going on as well as a diesel shortage coming up is there a real reason to stock up on it?

I have about 50 zerks I should grease.

Part of me wants to stock up on it but then I think that if I can't get food,fuel or even car parts greasing a car won't be on my mind.

A truck can go many miles not hitting the zerks with grease.......

You can just make sure you have 1 extra tube always, even with 50 zerks that should tie you over for a while. No need to buy them by the case.

I buy a case at a time. Short supply or not, I am not going to neglect my equipment.

I use about 10. tubes of grease a year . I have enough grease on hand. I try to not live out of the store.

If my living depended on it I would keep 6 to 12 months of consumables at this point. Not too worried about zombies but supply chain issues are real. If the rail strike does happen - and it looks like it will, only makes it worse.

This doesn't mean you won't find it - just means it will be Expensive.

Grease does seem to be in tight supply. I went to purchase a tube this week and none on the shelf been like that for months.

I think what billt460 was saying is either 1: they’re just not shipping it to gas stations for whatever contrived reason, or 2: it’s because it’s being put on ships and sent around the globe instead of local pumps, or 3: both. If he wasn’t saying that, I just did.

One tube of grease lasts me 10 years. Most cars these days don't even have grease fittings, and for those that do, are too much of a bother to get to for the small amount of miles I will drive it.

More like there have been a couple of major refinery issues and they prioritize markets when they ship fuel.

I buy it when I can find it. Normally I keep 2 or 3 tubes on the shelf but I have not been able to find Red and Tacky (my go too) for a year. I was able to get 1 tube of walmart red about a month ago and I check everytime I go in. I wont buy tubes on line because everytime I do 1 or 2 are bent at the rim and wont seal in the gun. I dont like to hoard anything but if I find it I might have to buy a case.
