Any opinions on Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3?

Since this thread was revived-- I ended up buying these tires. Have about 15K on them now.

IMO, the tire excels in pretty much everything but treadwear-- I rotate them every 7500 mi. and I'm guessing they might make it to 50K. The wear is nice and even, but this is a heavy van which seems to take a toll on tires. My last minivan (Honda Odyssey) was the same.

Good Lord. I didn't even see that this was 2 years old. Thanks for coming back and giving your impressions of that tire on that vehicle!! That will probably help some folks out at some point. Pretty kewl.

No worries, I think this tire is still on the market. I love the look of it, if you want a nice thick curb rash protector, these are it. Wife ran over a coat hanger looking thing a couple months ago which flattened one of them. Used an inexpensive plug and it's been fine since.

We do a fair bit of cross country driving in this van (it does kid/school duty otherwise; wife doesn't commute) and these are great tires in all conditions. I can't speak to grip performance as this is hardly a vehicle for carving corners or stoplight racing.

When I say they might get to 50K, that's me being very optimistic. These tires were on the mid to high end of the price spectrum, so I'm still not sold on overall value, time will tell.

I started reading this thread, glanced at date, “October 17”, thought ‘just last week, great!’

I did not notice the year until you mentioned it.

Great info regardless, thank you all!

Put a set on my daughter's 2019 Santa Fe - it came from the factory with Kumho Crugen KL33 - that were OK except they did not last very long. The Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 totally changed the ride and handling in a good way.

I had always been Michelin - but after 3 sets in a row that did not make it to 20K I decided to shop around.

I would give them a good grade - and when the Michelins on my wife's new Highlander wear out at 15K I will most likely replace them with these tires.

Based on many reviews here and elsewhere, I've decided on the AS+3 for my GLK250. It currently has Michelin Premier LTX which are worn down just past 4/32, and with winter on the way as well as a sale going on at DT, the Pirellis will get installed today.

Installed and already put a couple hundred miles on them. Very nice compliant but taut ride. They'll have to wear in a little more for me to really compare with the Michelins they replaced, but so far so good.
Plus3.webp

Still cleans up pretty good for an 11-yr-old ride that lives in the Midwest.

Michelin Premier LTX?

Defender LTX?

Premier LTX I think he said earlier
Yep, post #28.

The DT tire guy said those were some of the best tires Michelin ever made, but strangely they were discontinued less than a year after hitting the market. I opined that they were probably just replaced by the Defender series.

In any case, they were great for the 48K or so miles we put on them. No flats, no issues balancing, good grip in all conditions and quiet too. The new Pirellis have a lot to live up to.

Tire Rack has recently tested Pirelli scorpion All Season plus 3 with seven other tires including another Pirelli. And they really scored the Scorpion All Season PLUS 3 very very high especially in ride, quiet, control etc. Just the kind of tire looking for. I am considering these scorpion All Season plus 3 for myself.

I had them on our Mercedes GLC. They were firm, but not harsh. The steering was a little less precise that the OEM Michelin tires, but not drastically. I had 32,000 miles on them when we traded the car, and they still had decent life, but not likely to make it last 50,000 miles. They were good in rain and snow.
Overall I would use them again.

I installed a set of these on my 2021 RAV-4. We have put about 33k miles on in about 1.5 years. I rotate about every 10k (they have been rotated three times now).
As I read through all the posts, I am honestly surprised. I am not impressed with these tires. This is my first (and perhaps last) set of Pirelli tires. I bought them because of the rave reviews.
Don't get me wrong, they are not awful. I am just not impressed with the treadwear, but my biggest gripe is the noise. The more miles they get on them, the more they howl on smooth pavement.

I have a set on my 2017 RDX that were installed by Sam's Club in May 2023. I have about 43k miles on them. I rotate the tires regularly. they are wearing evenly and can see another 15k miles on these tires. I've been happy with this tire esp for the price. But like other Pirelli tires I have owned, they are getting noisier as they wear.

My experience is that all tires get a lot noisier as they wear out. The Toyo OEM tires on my 21 CX5 got noisy as they approached 3/32 or so. The Pirelli's (scorpion +3) that replaced those have been incredibly quiet so far but I'm only at 20K miles or so. I had the same issue with my 2016 CX5. It came with some Yokohamas that wore out really fast and were howling when I replaced them with some Conti LX25's (another pretty quiet and nice riding tire). The worst tires I've ever had in a long time were the Dunlap SP's that came on my 18 Mazda3. They were noisey, incredibly rough riding, and terrible traction from the get go. A set of Pirelli's P7's transformed that car.
