I've been reading up on the Ecore filters which I have been using quite regularly, but have decided to stop after seeing the discussions here.

I've been looking at using the ACDelco PF47, but all the ones around here are still ecore.

Is there any issue in using the Motorcraft FL321 (this is what cross references with the PF47).

Before I decide to go that route, how good are the Motorcraft fitlters? Who makes them? What is the media, filtering, and flow like?

Most Motorcraft filters are Purolators.

If it cross-references it should be fine. You can still get the non-ecore Classic ACDelco in PF47. I've seen them at AAP. They're probably about as easy to find as a FL321 and might have a higher efficiency rating than the MC.

Agree with all the above^^^. Motorcraft FTW!

If you're concerned about a possible warranty issue, you certainly won't have one with the factory-recommended ACD PF47, E-core or not, although if the MC FL321 is an approved x-reference, then you shouldn't have an issue either way.

BTW, a PF52 is the same as a PF47, but about an inch longer. If it'll fit, that would be another choice.

Most of the Motorcraft filters have a base end bypass system, rather than the typical bypass at the dome end of your typical Purolator. So yes, there are some design differences. The Mopar filters that Purolator makes (such as the MO-090 and MO-899) are the same way: they have a base end whereas the "generic" Purolator white can version uses a standard dome end bypass.

The bypass is in the engine in this application.

I have never seen an FL321 in person, but the pictures on eBay look identical to Purolator Classic oil filter.

There is nothing unusual about this filter. Even though it has a Motorcraft label, it was designed by Purolator specifically for the GM applications. I doubt that there's any "Ford spec" for the FL321.

The Purolator, Motorcraft, Pep Boys ProLine, and American Bosch oil filters are all run down the same assembly lines and constructed of the same components.

The last time I took a Motorcraft apart I found a Purolator Premium Plus case with a Pure One filter element.

There's nothing wrong with that - Purolator filters seem to be well-made.

The Ford-spec FL-1A has a threaded-end bypass. The PureONE does not. This is the case for MANY Motorcraft filters. For some reason, Ford has a serious thing with threaded-end bypasses.

Yes. They're rather anal about it. They're not just a rebadged Purolator.

Yeah if the FL321 crossreferences with the PF47 than it shouldn't have a bypass and probably doesn't have a silicone ADBV. Might as well go with a Purolator Classic for the application.
